Re: Arizona State 2011
Is anyone else concerned about Arizona State's possible tuition hikes as they may be getting away from public funding?

Could this mean cutting staff, increased tuition, and decreased US ranking over next three years?

Arizona State seems to have no problem gaining ground in the rankings. This program jumped 17 spots last year (55 to 38) so I am sure this new funding transition is just another piece of the puzzle. I would personally be more weary of increasing class sizes than faculty loss. Substantial tuition increase is a given in these situations.

Re: Arizona State 2011
The state has proposed another series of massive cuts for education in AZ this year. Public or private, there is a good chance tuition is going to increase significantly for 2nd and 3rd year at ASU and UA. I'm sure you know, but class sizes will be on the rise too as per ASU's privatization plan.haoledugan wrote:Is anyone else concerned about Arizona State's possible tuition hikes as they may be getting away from public funding?

I've only lived in AZ for about a year but working in politics here has convinced me that the education budget will continue to shrink and the law school will need to do something to adjust.

+1. In addition, tuition has bee on a significant rise over the past 3 years as it is, and ASU gains in the rankings and fairs pretty well in terms of employment nonetheless.ColomboHeat wrote:Arizona State seems to have no problem gaining ground in the rankings. After my visit yesterday, I am now certain I will be a sun devil again next year. All I can say is if you are on the fence about ASU, visit! the law school does not live up to the reputation of the undergrad. Everything was top of the line, there was a relaxed, fun atmosphere, everyone seemed genuinely happy, the staff was over the top friendly...I can't tell you how excited I am to have this decision made. Oh, and the student who gave me the tour was super cool and helpful
If anyone wants specifics about the visit, let me know. They did not offer me more money, but I will be withdrawing from higher ranked schools nonetheless.

More than likely, yes.Aldenita wrote:Is ASU ever going to get back to me???
ASU and UofA are both notoriously slow to communicate decisions. Hang in there. Good Luck.

I'm thinking things will start moving a lot quicker now that the application deadline passed over the weekend.Aldenita wrote:Is ASU ever going to get back to me???

Re: Arizona State 2011
Just a little encouragement from a 1L here at ASU to hang in there (and stay by your cell phones). Yes, the school has a history of being slow about decisions, but it's worth the wait. I was an EA back in 2009 and got held over for regular review and didn't get that fateful call until mid April.
Totally understandable if your seat deposits are coming up elsewhere and you have to make a decision, but hold off as long as you can if ASU is important in your considerations. Things here at the school are actually looking up and you want to be a part of it if you can.

The application deadline was the 1st if I remember correctly. Am I wrong?fragged wrote:I'm thinking things will start moving a lot quicker now that the application deadline passed over the weekend.Aldenita wrote:Is ASU ever going to get back to me???

Re: Arizona State 2011
The admissions website says they extended the deadline to the 20th. Not sure why they thought an extra couple weeks would make much of a difference, considering people had 4 months to get apps in. Unless of course they assume most people procrastinate and they are short on quality applicants.SunDevil07 wrote:The application deadline was the 1st if I remember correctly. Re: Arizona State 2011
Man I sure hope it's not mid-april until I hear a decision. How common is it for students to commit, pay a seat deposit then reneg and go to a different school? The only consequence is losing that initial seat deposit right?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
