FWIW, I should be in the next batch, according to complete date, but mine doesn't say under review yet either. Who knows!thelaststraw05 wrote:Does it actually say under review? Didn't write the "Why Illinois," and I am in with 40k a year.
Does "We are able to offer you a scholarship of $40000 per year which is guaranteed for all three years" mean that there are no GPA stipulations? I just don't want to find out that it is "guaranteed renewable..."

Re: Illinois 2011 applicants!
I'm in review for the next cycle, too. So glad that Dean Pless gives us an exact date, makes the waiting a little better (although I don't think I'll be able to sleep the night of the 6th).
All of the waitlisting is making me very nervous. My numbers are above the 75ths, I'm from Illinois/wrote a Why Illinois, and Illinois is sincerely one of the schools at the top of my list. Eeeeek so nervous!
Crazy mixture of emotions: anxious, nervous, excited! I'll probably be eating a few too many Christmas cookies to cope
Congrats to all who have been accepted and good luck to everyone!

I didn't write a Why Illinois, and honestly, couldn't have if I tried.... Mine would have said "umm... I'm a splitter and want to go to school in the midwest. The end."

From the Dean Pless thread...

I don't yield protect. Ever.
This thread doesn't have to be the "How wonderful Illinois is" thread. Please feel free to ask me any question about Illinois or our process that you want. I won't hold it against you, promise.

"File Complete - Ready for Review" = UR according to the thread with Dean Pless

Sorry, wasn't trying to argue. I thought it was YP at first as well. I just wanted to share that information with everyone in this thread.jwaters wrote:
That's fine. Many seemingly well qualified applicants were waitlisted and wondering why, I simply suggested a possible answer. This is a discussion forum after all. If they don't YP then kudos to them, but let's not pretend that it doesn't happen at many other schools. And even if they did, so what? Almost every school uses LSAT and GPA medians, among other things, to work the rankings. YP is just another tool. And again, if they don't do it then great for them.
My issue with it is if you don't call it YP, but admit some people with worse numbers than those you waitlist because you think they'll "be a better fit" (read, will actually come to your school), then isn't it still YP?

This is incorrect.
File Complete - Ready for Review means the date Dean Pless uses for cutoffs. I was FC-R4R on 11/19, so I made it into the 12/17 batch.
When it says "File Complete - Under Review", that's how you'll know that it's being reviewed. Although he's pretty clear about who gets decisions when. I believe that anyone who was "File Complete - Ready for Review" by 12/13 should go to FC-UR today and have a decision on 1/7/2011.

Ask this in the Dean Pless thread. I predict a response that will most likely work against your assumption.chrisbru wrote:Sorry, wasn't trying to argue. I thought it was YP at first as well. I just wanted to share that information with everyone in this thread.jwaters wrote:

You will be in the next round.
For some reason I took that to mean that the guy asking the question was already in review. Whoops. Reading comp fail

No. YP is simply "You can't reject me because I'm rejecting you!" It's like no-bidding a girl in sorority rush because she's too pretty or something.chrisbru wrote:Sorry, wasn't trying to argue. What it seems UIUC is doing is taking a more holistic approach... not as holistic as Berkeley, but really looking at softs and the personality that comes through the application. I mean, you can have good numbers and still not be someone they'd want representing the school (think Tucker Max type, for example).

Re: Illinois 2011 applicants!
Well. Just a couple quick points. 1) I doubt someone who is as open and honest as Dean Pless has been then covers up YP. Just think that's unlikely. 2) if you were YP'd then your a badass who is gonna get into "better" schools anyways so don't worry. I, for one, am very appreciative of what Pless has done and thus I have no qualms about the decision...although mine was a rather clear-cut rejection lol.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
