Illinois 2011 applicants!

Post by Bildungsroman » Sat Nov 13, 2010 2:21 am

Well, Dean Pless was nice enough to have a question thread for the class of 2014, but I think we need a spot for those of us who have submitted to spend time fretting and passing time while counting down to decisions.

Just submitted my application today. I didn't write the Why Illinois because, even though I love the idea of going to UIUC, I find it really hard to not come off as insincere in "Why X" essays. Hopefully they won't hold it against me.

I applied a few weeks ago. Hopefully decisions start coming out soon...

Naterj is 3.99, 179. A complete failure if you ask me.

OP: thanks for creating this thread. We almost take Dean Pless' thread for granted. Submitted my app and went complete about two weeks ago. Good luck everyone.

I submitted 10/30 and I think they're still waiting for my hard copies! But, here's my name added to the waiting list. :)

I'm not capable of doing the complex math necessary to convert that to a traditional grading scale, so I'll just act sort of impressed to hedge my bets.

I delayed applying by 2 weeks trying to write the Why Illinois. Nothing I wrote sounded good enough, so I finally just submitted. I'm REALLY hoping it's not counted against us!

I applied even though I have almost no shot. Figured it was a good choice for a really high reach and their waiving of the application fee kind of sealed the deal. Heres to hoping! Cheers. :)

It's not, unless you are borderline and they're trying to decide between you and someone who wrote it who has a good reason for wanting to go or otherwise expressed that they REALLY REALLY want to be here....

But don't worry about it.

Compared to other "Why" essays, I liked the Illinois essay. It asked you not only what the school would contribute to you, but what you could contribute to the school. This gives you one more opportunity to make a direct argument for your candidacy, and not just pretend to be interested in some particular clinic (not that I did this of course  ).
