WL via snail mail. After receiving $$ from other t3 schools, it sorta hurt my ego. But I had already decided against going, so I guess I will withdraw tomorrow!

Yeah, I'm still stunned that with a GPA and LSAT over the 75% percentile that they might not offer me anything. They told me on the phone that I was right at the cusp. : / I know IS tuition is dirt cheap, so at least waive the OOS if you want to be competitive.

They really said that? I doubt I'll get anything then. My LSAT is between 50-75 and my GPA over 75, so if you won't get anything then neither will I.Neidermeyer519 wrote:Yeah, I'm still stunned that with a GPA and LSAT over the 75% percentile that they might not offer me anything. Yeah, they said that when I called and asked about scholarship information. She told me I was right at the cusp for receiving merit scholarships. Really blew my mind. I don't have some sense of self entitlement, but if you're not going to give scholly's to people over your 75%, then who are you going to give them to, ya know?
I wish ya the best of luck though. Hopefully you get something. I know that if I don't, then they are getting crossed off my list.

Thanks. I'm right there with you. I absolutely won't be going there without some financial assistanceNeidermeyer519 wrote:Yeah, they said that when I called and asked about scholarship information. I would hope that they would do something like waive OOS tuition. That would be a pretty sweet deal right there.

what about those of us with GPA below median and LSAT way above 75th? I haven't heard anything...Neidermeyer519 wrote:Yeah, they said that when I called and asked about scholarship information. I would assume that if your LSAT is pretty high, then you should stand to receive some money. Are you a Mississippi resident?

This surprised me about Ole Miss, although people on this board did advise that they are a bit stingy. Both Arkansas schools waived OOS tuition for me and I believe they do for a good percentage of OOS admits. To be competitive with the other state schools in the area Ole Miss is going to have to start granting OOS scholarships for the first year.Neidermeyer519 wrote:I would hope that they would do something like waive OOS tuition. They are. I was given a 1/2 tuition scholarship to the University of Louisville, which is IS for me. I would be hard pressed to pay 22K a year for Ole Miss when I would only be paying 8K a year for Louisville. Pity, because I do like Oxford a lot.

They finally sent me an offer. Total around 27k (first year oos waived.. and 5k/year). I think I'll pass.

They sent the non-resident equalizer through snail mail, then the additional 5k/year via e-mail. I also received a phone call to confirm both.jaymaynard wrote:Email or snail mail?rli66 wrote:They finally sent me an offer. Total around 27k (first year oos waived.. and 5k/year). I think I'll pass.

Decision rendered. I suppose I will wait a couple days for the snail mail. If I called and annoyed them enough, would they tell me what the decision is?

I have every intention of waiting. I imagine its a waitlist or denial anyways.

Yeah. Hard to say what the committee is thinking and what their specific process is, but you probably have a good shot.WVUguy11 wrote:158, 3.17

It sucks they can't be more competitive with trying to get more #s like you, but honestly it looks like you have better options, and I say that as an OM student.

Re: Ole Miss Applicants c/o 2014
Okay, this question is directed mainly at deadpanic (since he goes here):
I'm at the cusp of the scholarship line (3.63, 159). I haven't received anything with my acceptance letter in terms of scholarship money. Even still, I'm assuming that since they award merit scholarships to those least likely to attend OM (since they have more/better options), much of the awarded money will go unspent.
If this is the case, do they re-appropriate the scholarship money; that is, do they take the scholarship money offered to other students who later declined and award it over the summer to those who are next down on the totem pole who've paid their seat deposit? If not, I'm curious as to what they do with it.
I'm not expecting a full ride or 50% off, but it would be pretty nifty to get a 2k scholarship or something that would potentially, projected interest rates considered, save me 8k or more down the road. I get virtually no family support, so that kind of money is a big deal to me.

Knuckles-
I really don't have a great answer for you unfortunately. I want to say that they don't re-allocate any scholarship money. definitely worth trying to negotiate with them at the very least. best of luck. if you have anymore questions let me know.

Okay, so I called the admissions office today and the ever-pleasant, always helpful Assistant Dean of Admissions/Students straightened out all the questions I had (and even some I didn't know I had).Knuckles wrote:Okay, this question is directed mainly at deadpanic (since he goes here):

As it turns out, scholarships are granted throughout the cycle. You can see (from what I've been told) what scholarships you've been awarded via the Online Status Checker; in addition, you receive an email. Furthermore, scholarships are available to current students through a form available each April (some of these are specific to your local origin or other factors, others are determined by which programs you are participating it).
So, up until the deadline for seat deposits, I'd be on the lookout for additional funding coming from Ole Miss. They keep a close eye on their merit awards generally, but I wouldn't dismiss Ole Miss as an option just because you didn't get all the money you wanted/needed outright.
NB: I'm obviously not the definitive source on these things, but I just figured I'd share my findings since a handful of you seemed pretty curious or disappointed.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
