Kind of off topic but they just released the line up for outside lands music festival in sf from aug 12-14(right before orientation!) and the lineup is AWESOME. Mgmt, black keys, arcade fire (!!!!), Girltalk, the decemberists.. Just to name a few! Definitely check it out!

Does Hastings still call EVERY admit personally? Just wondering, because I don't usually answer calls from numbers I don't recognize. Not sure if I should even be expecting a call but just in case.....

Any info/numbers would be greatly appreciated.

No stats, but if you read last year's thread people were getting off the waitlist through June (maybe later, but I stopped reading it). Right now Hastings is waiting for all the big number applicants to W, which frees up space and they can start admitting WLs.

If the gym indeed is for all students, that's pretty awesome. That'd mean I wouldn't need to commute back to the East Bay to work a few hours a week (less than 5) to maintain my free gym membership! However, that does reduce the small amount of pocket money that I'd get. Hmmm, decisions.

Also, more opinions on ASW! I wasn't able to attend sadly and would like to know everyone's experiences!

Last year, not all admits were called at this stage. I'm almost certain this is the case this year as well.

I went to the earlier ASW and I was honestly more impressed than I thought I would be. I thought the Dean's speech was the best part and from what I hear.. he is very accessible and motivated to help students learn. The student panel seemed ready to answer the looming question of how "competitive" the school is and of course, they all said that times have changed and that its very collegial now.

Also, the moot court requirement was also a positive for me because I really enjoy oral advocacy so it was cool to know that everyone was going to do it. Also, the professor that teaches the moot court class was on the Faculty Board and she was hilarious and seemed great.

In terms of the physical buildings, they also were not as bad as I thought they were going to be. I thought the library seemed like a great place to spend the majority of our lives (its newly renovated) and they had a ton of security around for escorts in case you are there late which was nice.

The tower was great too. Its more apartment style, than dorm style so it didnt feel like a return to undergrad to me. They also have great amenities (gym, laundry service etc) and the price is really good considering it includes utilities. If I go there, I will at least live there for the first year if I can.

The classrooms were fine. They were similar to other schools I have visited. Also, their Moot Court room is incredible. Its really new and very nice.

I think the biggest negative was just the size of the class/sections (~85/section) but thats just something I thought was really big considering we are all going to try to be the top of the class and this is much bigger than other schools.

Hope that helps!

Thanks, that will help me avoid any unnecessary conversations with a bill collector!

yeah, went to the previous ASD, and i second everything said.

also, will the sections still be that big? i believe they want to cut class size down to the 380-ish range. regardless, sections are only about 10-15 more people than most other schools.

I went to ASD this past weekend and met up with a friend who is currently a 1L there. She told me that you will most likely hang out and be friends with the people that are in your section, which is made up of about 80 people. She considered this a positive because she said you have a greater chance at meeting more people you "click" with, and there's more people to hang out with and study with. Also, in class, you have a less chance of getting cold-called. She said the class size is very comfortable....

Are you in state or out of state? What are the McGeorge stips? How do you feel about living in Sacramento?

I just want to know already! I have seat deposits due this week. I doubt I'll get into Hastings barring a miracle though. Waiting for here and USF. Damn you SF schools.

Right??? Just paid my tuition deposit elsewhere yesterday, but I will kiss that $300 goodbye if Hastings comes through.

I have noticed on other threads (USC) that they send decisions in "batches". Does Hastings do this too, or do they sort of send out decisions as they make them?
