Submitted 1/17, complete 1/21. Second complete 3/3. Does this mean I should expect a decision soon? I know some people get a response immediately after 2nd complete and others wait quite a while -- is there any discernible rhyme or reason to this? Thanks!

I emailed admissions asking for some sort of travel stipend and they told me they "don't have the funding available to provide any assistance with travel costs."

:-( hope someone else has better luck!

yea but if you think about, they are taking 20K to 35K less than what most schools are charging a student. and it's not like they aren't giving out any money. I am willing to bet that more funds will be available once they figure out who's actually going and who is not after first deposits are due.

i am kind of annoyed with the no travel subsidy thing.

I've read mixed things about how difficult it is to claim PA residency after your 1L year at Temple. Is there a consensus as to how difficult it really is? Is it doable?

20-35k less? Where in the world did you get this number?

OOS tuition for Temple is $30,580. For Villanova it's 36,690. Penn State is $36,816. Pittsburgh is 33,334.

i read a lot on this on friday after finding out from the temple 1Ls that their fellow students are being denied residency. it made me think about what they may have done and not done to get that result. temple has a guideline for establishing residency on their website, which i posted already but it is basically taken from the PA code.
http://www.pacode.com/secure/data/022/c ... 5.29b.html

so, i am thinking those 1Ls who got denied may have been denied for a variety of reasons. 1. are they over 22/not considered an independent and are really residents of the state their parents reside? 2. did they make a compelling showing that they will remain in PA after law school?

From what I have read, it looks like PA public universities would rather not offer in state rates for people who do not expect to stay in PA. PA residents pay their taxes and why should their taxes contribute to a reduction of tuition for those who are not going to contribute further to PA (pay taxes, stay in PA, etc.)

The 1Ls who got rejected for in-state most likely were able to show a lease for a PA apartment and that should be enough right? but I don't think so and what else could have been done?
I'm thinking, if you can show that you are establishing significant ties to the state and make a clear showing that you will definitely stay in PA and contribute to the Commonwealth (change your voting registration to PA and vote, get a PA license & PA apartment, join PA civic and political associations, get an affidavit stating your intention to stay, pay PA taxes, show that you have full-time employment in PA after school (if this is possible)) then the school will have a hard time saying no.

these are just my theories but you can bet that i am not going to just be showing a PA lease when i request for in-state...if it means a $13K tuition difference.

i wasn't talking about regional PA schools, I was talking about top 30 schools where tuition for a large number of these schools is now anywhere been $72,000 to $74,000, including cost of living and expenses, not just tuition.

Tuition and cost of living are not the same thing. The vast majority of schools do not benefit from students' cost of living monies, as most student live off campus. Also, Temple isn't competing with "top 30 schools"; it's competing with the ones I listed (among others).

temple's instate tuition is 17.5K; oos is 30.5K.
fellow T2 schools cardozo tuition is 46.2K.
brooklyn law school = 46.6K
usd = 41.2K
you get the point...and yes we can say that temple is competing with other regional PA schools, i'll give you that, but you cannot say that it's not also vying for the affection of those who are also looking at higher ranked schools. kk, i've seen you on the WUSTL thread and you're complaining about money there too.

my general point is that law school tuition is expensive, really really expensive. i'm thankful that temple has a low in-state rate that i am going to try really hard to get, and their OOS tuition is not bad either compared to what other T2 schools are charging their students. and yea, their scholarship offers are lower than what other schools are offering some students but their tuition is lower to begin with that the difference after scholarships are taken into account for temple and other PA regional schools is about the same (at least it is for me).

Hey all,

Withdraw! I'm 2.8/165 and haven't heard anything in quite some time. I've been living in Philly for years and would love to go to Temple - open up some spots!!
