Lewis & Clark 2011 Applicants

Postby firecracker » Mon Nov 01, 2010 11:07 pm

Anyone else apply yet? I just submitted my application today! I was wait listed last year. I visited the school over the summer (it's really pretty out in Portland!), so if anyone has any questions I can try to help.

I applied a couple weeks ago - crossing my fingers. I like the area and the reputation of the school.

Good luck!

Applied late October keeping fingers crossed. I was just wondering how winters are in Portland? I am from Miami, FL so just trying to get an understanding of how cold it will be if I get accepted. Thanks and Good luck everyone.

My application went complete to the part time program. I'm really nervous because I'm such a splitter, 3.9 / 155. I'd love to end up in Portland, but I know I don't have the best chance. How quick is their turn around with applications? Does anyone know? Better yet, does anyone know how high their admissions standards are for the part time program? Does it run about even to the full time one?

According to their website the admissions standards for the full- and part-time programs are exactly the same. After 1L, anyone in the full-time program can go part-time and vice vera.

I'd say you have a good chance!

My experience from last year:

Application complete mid-January.
Application held early-February.
Waitlisted mid-April.

They were much quicker than other schools. I'm hoping applying earlier helps this time around! I definitely would love to attend.

I'm from the area and have my app in as well. Haven't lived there in years. It's winters aren't like Nebraska, but it wont be tropical either. From what I remember ice was our biggest enemy in the winter, or freezing rain. I do remember it getting into the teens, but I can hardly say it was ever colder than that. Portland is a great place, something I took for granted growing up there.

If you're from Florida it'll probably seem cold, but our winters are actually very mild. We usually have maybe a week of snow (a couple of inches to a foot max), which isn't extreme but brings the entire city to a screeching halt because there aren't enough snowplows, sand trucks, etc. Aside from that, just get used to 20-30 days straight of rain at a time and no sight of the sun, with temps in the 40s-50s. Buy a good parka (something with serious waterproofing, from North Face or Mountain Hardwear) and get used to your jeans being slightly damp. Carrying an umbrella will instantly mark you as a tourist! :)

On the other hand, it was almost 70 degrees and sunny today. wtf.

Did anyone write an essay for the merit-based scholarship? If so, what did you discuss? thanks!

I discussed my goal of working in the public sector, how I've worked in government positions for years and I like it, and how I'd be more likely to take a lower-paying government job if I had less debt. It's maybe 2/3 of a page. Aside from that, I'm hoping my LSAT does the talking for me. :)

I applied quite some time ago. I wonder when their first wave goes through...

Also, there are definitely situations in the NW where umbrellas are acceptable.

Even though I knew it's way too early to expect anything, I couldn't help getting excited when I saw a huge, fat envelope from L&C in my mailbox last night. Of course, it turned out to be the viewbook and application package.

Seems like L&C could save a few trees by checking their list of prospective students to whom they're mailing apps against the list of people who've already applied.

Since I now have a spare, I might send the viewbook to my grandparents with their Christmas card. They don't even know I'm applying to LS.

I applied there too a couple weeks ago. Initially it was going to be a backup school, but Portland really is an amazing place, which helps bump the school up on my list.

I thought this was funny - I had the same experience. You would think for being such an environmentally friendly atmosphere they would send less application material post-application. They did look great though.

I visited the school during the summer and took the tour and everything. It was very informative. They have great facilities.

On LSN it seemed like Jan was the earliest people got notice. Their site says they start reviewing mid-Nov though.

Not credited.

See bottom of page and next:

So it looks like second week of DEC last year was the earliest anyone heard if LSN is accurate.

Does L&C have an ASW, I couldnt figure it out from the website?

Check out the student blogs, aka "Law Snapshots". They describe some activities that were held last year (unless you want to not credit me again).
