i dont know much about it (and by much i mean i dont really know jack S) but i'm leaning towards the Mt. Vernon area, if I attend...I'm planning on going up in a couple of weeks to scout out all the areas.

One of my friends lives in Mount Vernon now, she hates it and is moving as soon as she can. It's fairly close to the law school, but personally I would not want to walk from the school to Mount Vernon at night. While it's not one of the worst areas of Baltimore it definitely isn't one of the better ones. Federal Hill is not much farther away (a five minute drive tops) and has a lot of grad/law students.

i'm not really sure about prices in that area. I myself live in Northwest Baltimore City, all I know is the neighborhoods near the school are not the safest.

hm i see...you think many students there elect to live further away and take public transportation to school? I'm trying to see how that's viable if I ever have to stay late on campus or what not.

I live right by the school in the Redwood Square/Marlboro Sq buildings. They are relatively cheap. I pay $880 for a 1 bd rm. It's a 3 min walk to the school, which is great when I am running late or want to head over to the library on the weekends. About a 5 min walk to the school gym. I can walk to the harbor in about 15 min and over to Federal Hill and Mount Vernon in about the same. There's a nice supermarket that's a 10 min walk away too. There are a bunch of other apts in there too: Avalon Centerpoint, the Abell, the Redwood (different from Redwood Sq), and the Greenehouse.

Yes, the neighborhood is not the best, but it is actually not that bad. People overhype how bad it is around the school. There are always tons of people around with the hospital, med school, and social work school being all right there. Don't let people scare you as to how bad Baltimore is. As long as you aren't hanging out in East Baltimore or West of MLK you'll be fine.

Does anyone have any experience with the preferred wait list. They made it seem like I was definitely going to be offered admissions eventually. I think that I was put on this list because of how late I applied. On LSN, I am one of only three people with my LSAT or higher to not get in outright. Any insight would be solid.

Pretty sure this was already mentioned earlier in the thread.

You could try looking over in fed hill which is pretty safe and not as expensive as some other places. Depending on where you look its also possible to walk to classes too, but I'd recommend buying a commuter pass though for days when the weather isn't good.

I'm back and forth between Temple and Maryland. I'm from Philly, and ideally I'd like to work in Philly, but holy shit I'd so much spend the next 3 years in UMD than in North Philly (by a lot). Anyone in a similar spot? Am I screwing myself if I go to UMD?

I do not think you are screwed. You just may have to network some to get back to Philly. I know a 3L graduating this year with a job with a big firm in Wilmington. I know it's not Philly, but they are kind of in the same market.

Withdrawn. I was really hoping for this school, but without absolutely any offer of aid, I'd be beyond stupid to consider.

Is the ranking based on when you were added to the wait list or is it based on their preference?

i wish i knew the answer to this as well. As it stands, UMD is by far the highest ranked school I have hopes of attending and I am on the preferred waitlist as well. I hope I can get a decision by late April...

Yep, I applied for Fayette Square last week and received my first choice two days later.

So finally, after months of being in review, my online status checker changed from "in review" to "decision made." Is this the same thing as "applicant rejected"?

Nope. Everyone sees this, regardless of what the decision actually is. you'll only get notified of the actual decision by mail.
