The letter came today, also. I'm in central New Jersey.

My letter finally arrived today although it was postmarked 2/8. I got $35,000 a year.

I got the letter. When do they tell you about scholarship info? Should it have been in the letter?

Mine was the very same letter as admittance. Not even two separate letters in the same package like most schools. (It was a wordy letter)

I sent my assigned admissions counselor an email trying to argue for a scholarship. How negotiable are they wehn it comes to scholarships?

They say they'll negotiate. That's better than nothing.

OK, coming out of lurking to join the forums. I'm in at St. John's, with a 30K scholly. I had a surprisingly quick turn-around from them. I received the admitted students open house e-mail from them less than two weeks after I applied.
The letter did take longer, maybe four or five days after I received the e-mail, and I'm in Manhattan.
Good to hear that they're open to negotiation. 30K is good, but not as much as I was hoping given how quickly they admitted me.
In any case, I'll be going to the admitted students open house later this month to check it out. Now I just have to figure out how to get there. Queens is kind of a mystery to me.

Congrats on the acceptance and school Lawst. Are you really considering attending? I got 35K which makes the school affordable but I worry about how it places among the other NYC schools. I'm not going to be able to make it up to visit this month (live in FL) but hope to make it up in early March. I look forward to hearing what you think of the school.

Thanks, and congrats to you, too. I do worry about how it compares to other NYC schools, but I would consider attending. It all depends on what happens with my other schools. I started applying in January (late, I know), so I'm still waiting to hear back from 11 schools. I'll let you know what I think after the open house.

I'm in the same boat. I applied in January as well. Late but I took the Dec LSAT and with finals and graduation and work everything seemed to get pushed back later. I'm waiting on eleven schools as well.

Yeah I took the December LSAT too. (I took it in October, as well, but that did NOT go well). It didn't help that we didn't get our scores back until Jan. 6.

I am going to try and negotiate some money, do schools give the money out when a kid who was offered a scholarship rejects the offer

That's what they do for UG as well (how I ended up there). Be wary though (unless you want to go into private practice). If you want a shot at a biglaw job you need to be at the top of the class. You're up against:

Columbia
NYU
Cornell
Other T-14 (especially Harvard, Yale, UVA, UPenn, GULC, and others)
Fordham
Boston schools (BU/BC)
GW
Cardozo
Brooklyn

Plus some other schools below St. John's, i.e. Rutgers, Hofstra, NYLS, etc. NYC is a big market, but be realistic about what your opportunities will be. That said, if you can get a debt free education, it's not a terrible option.

+1. Thats why I am keeping SJU in my back pocket in case I dont get a good enough scholarship offer elsewhere. Dont think I wont pack it up and go to SJU for free instead of paying sticker at somewhere like UMD or even GW.

Is it worth paying sticker at a place like Cardozo over a scholarship of some kind at SJU?

Finally got my letter today. In with a full ride. Unless Cardozo matches or UVA miraculously lets me in, I will be attending St. John's in the fall. I am not keen on Big Law and would be extremely happy with a free education in NYC.

I doubt the deviation between STJ and Cardozo is that much. They're both tier 2. I would guess they both probably have similar alumni networks

Frankly, sticker at Cardozo in most any scenario is probably a shoddy idea given it's under pretty much the same heap of schools that St. John's is under in the NYC market. You're going to have to be near the top of your class at either one if you want to work in biglaw, so go with the cheaper option.

Just my $0.02.

Yeah, that's basically my situation. I have a couple T1 (but not top-14) acceptances, but I'm waiting on scholarship info. I don't think I'm willing to thumb my nose at a SJU free ride and pay sticker elsewhere.

To people getting their decision letters, are they coming to your permanent address or to your college residence?

I am in Florida and my letter was supposedly sent on the 10th, I'm anxious to hear back.

I wouldn't worry too much because it took a week for me to get mine, and I live in NY.

Does anyone else who applied in mid-November still have complete as their status?

Even a change to in review would be nice. :?
