My numbers are a reach for BU, but I'm hoping solid WE and an engineering undergrad/IP slant will make up for the two points that would have sent me over the top there...

Plus the tower of doom looks ballin

The "tower of doom" is actually really nice on the inside- a lot nicer than the decaying classrooms in some the old buildings of more "beautiful" campuses.

No, but my numbers were above there 75ths. I think you should do it if your borderline. I felt it wouldn't make sense in writing an optional essay because it would open up the door for potential mistakes and criticisms.

I'm not quite "borderline," but I felt the need to demonstrate additional interest. Glancing LSN, it seems 2/3 of accepted students with my numbers get ~1/3 ride (the other 1/3 getting bupkiss). I'm guessing the optional essay was the discriminating factor.

I didn't write a Diversity [statement] per se, but did write a Why BU? As I did for virtually all the schools I applied to that weren't a T2.

Shoot, I didnt do it because I felt my PS answered the question. My LSAT is low for them, so perhaps I should.

Do you think they would accept it if I called them and asked?

BU asks for a personal statement and an optional diversity statement. It doesn't say anything about a Why BU? essay. Can you just submit a Why X? essay to any school, even if it's not even listed as an option?

I did it last year after I got WL. My PS speaks alot about me, but not about what I want to do with a JD and why I specifically wanted to go to BU. BU is high on my list for a number of reasons and I wanted to enumerate those. I don't think they're going to look at me negatively if I write a whole essay about how awesome they are.

If they don't like I wouldn't see why, but would also understand as they don't want a novel to evaluate an applicant. So I'll let you know how it goes.

Edited due to my poor english

I added a diversity statement that discussed my recent conversion to Islam (my wife is from Saudi Arabia) and how it revived some of the principles I picked up from my Catholic upbringing. It was kinda ballsy, but my numbers are low for BU, so I figured I have to grab their attention with something. Let's see...

I did a two-page personal statement that discussed why law, career goals, how my academic and professional history ties in, and why BU. My part on BU was a couple of sentences, but I tried to make it as succinct as possible. I did a diversity statement on living abroad as a child, and I hope that will distinguish me. My LSAT is a little low for them, and LSN predicts waitlist or reject for me.

Actually, if you're above both 75ths, you should probably write an optional essay. Assuming that BU YP's, that is.

I don't believe BU has any optional essay prompts beyond the standard diversity/underperformance on GPA and/or LSAT essays.

Ah, sorry about that. I was just assuming OP meant an optional, not-explicitly-asked-for, Why X essay.

They call, and they started coming this week, during Thanksgiving break. Someone in last years thread mentioned that the person they spoke with said they intentionally planned it for the break.

No idea if that trend will continue this year though.

In with $ (unless you're YP waitlisted, which is a distinct--but not certain--possibility).
