Hey if any of you have the full subscription to US News, could you please post the full employment stats for Texas? If you don't feel comfortable posting it (copyright or something), could you PM it to me? Thanks.

Yeah, I derailed things a bit. On to what I really mean:

I haven't decided. I am either going to ASW or one of the other two events right after. I am definitely going to tour even though my mind is pretty much made up at this point. My dad wants to fly out with me and check out the city while I attend the events at the school, so figuring out which date is best for us to both take off work and travel is what we are going to do today.

I was torn between the Duke and UT ASWs, but UT offered me a free plane ticket, booked it for me, and worked out my housing, so consider my convinced. Plus, I've heard awesome things about Austin and I've always wanted to visit, and I hear the weather there is amazing this time of year. I'm so excited!!

I was offered a $200 stipend. The cheapest round trip flights I can find from Atlanta to Austin are ~$500, and I am pretty sure there are no direct flights.

Oddly enough, there are flights up to about $100 cheaper that leave from other cities, layover in Atlanta, then go to Austin. I'll never understand how these things work.

I was offered $200, asked for more because my airfare is $500 alone, plus got a hotel room and a car. They said they aren't offering any more than $200 even though they have gotten multiple requests. Then I see that at least two people on TLS have gotten full airfare.. hmm. Either way I'll be there, are you guys going to be there Thursday? We should figure out a tls meet up at some point.

Hah, be glad they gave you any money at all. I didn't qualify and so had to visit a week ago when flights were cheaper. It's the one ASW that I would have really preferred to go to.

I guess now that UT is a T14, it is getting a second look from plenty of people here.

This is almost a bad thing. Now I'm going to have more fierce competition and less scholarship negotiation room. The next eight years or so of my life are about to get interesting. At least, no matter what changes, we can all say that we were the first class admitted after UT broke the T14. Bragging rights.

Ha not much to brag about. It was the last class' numbers that propelled it to 14. Our admissions cycle wasn't impacted by fiercer competition from more people looking at UT (due to their new ranking), since applications were due before the rankings were released. If anything 2013 and 2015 have the bragging rights. We're just lucky

What were your numbers, everyone that got a travel stipend? The admissions office told me the stipends were merit based and handed out on a rolling basis when I called to ask a few weeks ago. I was offered a very nice scholarship but no travel stipend.

I will be headed to the asw anyway and will likely attend this fall. I've been struggling a bit deciding between UT and GULC, but I just can't rationalize paying the 100k+ difference in COA.

Not that you should before, but now they are tied!

I'm 170/3.9 but they only gave me the $200.

I was just joking. I meant that now that UT has moved to tie GULC at #14, people that were dismissing it at #15 in lieu of the T14 may be reconsidering, especially since the CoA (with the scholarship offers UT has been giving) seems to be quite cheaper than GULC and Cornell. I wasn't being serious, though.

Just to help convince people to come visit.... The high today is 74 and Thursday it'll be 83. I don't really care for Austin summers, but the fall, winter, and spring are pretty freaking awesome.

Also, I want to meet yall!

I forgot to tell you - as you suggested I went to the kite festival with my momma bear. :-) Austin seems like a great place to raise a family.

I also ate at Chuy's, the Salt Lick, NXNW, and some other random places. My favorite of all things was the cupcake truck. Full disclosure - I am a vegetarian and went to the Salt Lick because I still thought that my mom should get a taste of the q. :-) Turns out their green bean casserole was awesome. Also, I am not kidding, but their peach/blackberry cobbler AND pecan pie were the best of those desserts I have ever tried. And I am hardcore into my southern cuisine. You could tell they didn't use any corn syrup in the pie. We also did a wine tasting at the Salt Lick and I was really pleasantly surprised by Texas wine.

Oh cool! I was at the kite festival too! It was really fun, though the kites kept scaring my dog (I shouldn't have laughed, but I did). Chuys queso is my <3. I'm probably a bad Texan because I've never been to the Salt Lick though. :?

I don't believe you. There is no way they do pecan pie in Texas better than they do in Georgia. I am going to have to try this out for myself.

Agreed. I know the rankings should be taken with a grain of salt but this move up by Texas has made it even easier to convince myself it's the right decision. Plus, I love Austin and have enjoyed my time in other parts of Texas.

Maybe a current student can answer this. Would it be more difficult for out-of-staters to get a state gov job in Austin over 1L summer? What about externships during 2L/3L?

Ya know, last night I was super excited about Texas' triumphant breach of the T14. I was planning on going there anyway, but I felt all the more validated by the new ranking. However, after being subjected to all the egregious anti-Texas trolling and T13 talk throughout the forums, I now almost wish it woulda just stayed at 15.... This is painful!
