Re: UVa. Regular Decision
I think she was saying she was surprised that you got waitlisted because normally you would have gotten money.
Going by LSN, it looks like occasionally UVA has given scholarships to people accepted off the waitlist, but last year they overenrolled so chances of getting off the WL in the first place are probably slim.

I disagree with this statement. I would say that schools with over-enrollment issues last year would be more conservative this year by initially accepting fewer candidates and then pulling from the waitlist as needed. And yes, I understand they deferred some admits, but nevertheless I think the waitlist everywhere will see some movement, especially the schools that overenrolled last year.eskimo wrote:

Just my hypothesis (for full disclosure, I'm on lots of waitlists.)

Re: UVa. Regular Decision
Even in years before last year they didn't seem to take too many people. They'll obviously utilize it more this year, but I still think it won't be many people, and that the chances for scholarships off the WL will be small. note that I'm not saying nonexistent, just small.

I agree fully on the scholarships at schools that deferred as they had to give some of their scholly pool away last year to get people to defer.eskimo wrote:Even in years before last year they didn't seem to take too many people. WL'd, as anticipated. Found out by email today. I applied late, without a strong "Why UVA?". Numbers etc. in profile.

Maybe date of submission helps to show you want it more?

Well I'm jealous. I would like an answer either way so I can narrow down my decisions!

no you really can't- in fact you probably won't get off the waitlist. i was just saying that i am surprised you got WL because UVA likes people with your #sJustin.S wrote:paulinaporizkova wrote:did you write a why UVA? i know virginia WLs a ton of people but they love to throw money at people with your #sJustin.S wrote:Waitlisted above both 75th's? You can still get money off the WL? I would really consider UVA if I got a decent scholarship...

Re: UVa. Regular Decision
So . . . I'm one of those still holding strong with no word yet from UVA. It's close to my number one choice and my numbers are well above median. My personal statement had a detailed paragraph on Why UVA, but now I'm considering sending in a LOCI in addition. Should this be a formal document written to the Dean or just an email to the admissions office indicating that I'm still very interested? I think my dilemma is that I'm not sure what more to say that I didn't cover in my original personal statement and I don't want to be redundant. How lengthy does an LOCI have to be? Those of you who sent one in, what format did you use, how long was it, and what did you include?
EDIT: My application was submitted 1/7 so it's been more than two months.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
