So . . . I'm one of those still holding strong with no word yet from UVA. It's close to my number one choice and my numbers are well above median. My personal statement had a detailed paragraph on Why UVA, but now I'm considering sending in a LOCI in addition. Should this be a formal document written to the Dean or just an email to the admissions office indicating that I'm still very interested? I think my dilemma is that I'm not sure what more to say that I didn't cover in my original personal statement and I don't want to be redundant. How lengthy does an LOCI have to be? Those of you who sent one in, what format did you use, how long was it, and what did you include?

EDIT: My application was submitted 1/7 so it's been more than two months.

I'd probably do a LOCI? I sent a one page one in to the Dean. He responded right away and said I should hear back shortly...that was on Monday Afternoon. I submitted 1/10.

I wrote it as a formal document.

However, many regard the yield protection theory to be a myth propagated by college students who failed to gain admission to elite universities. Yield rate refers to the proportion of students who matriculate (i.e. accept an admissions offer and attend the college) after acceptance to a college.

It definitely exists. How much of it exists depends on what school you're talking about.

Got a WL the next day, 3.89, 170.

its ok I really don't want to live in a suburban area tbh...no offense to the rest of you! 5 years in Irvine & 10+ in the bay area is enough.

Meh, they send pretty nice notes back to a lot of stuff. What are they going to say? "You suck, we'll WL you soon."?

Honestly, +1. If you care that much about it, should've ED'd... nobody should apply to UVa RD expecting to get in.

Absolutely. I should have qualified by saying out-of-state. Out of staters with a 166+/3.9+ or a 170+/3.6+ might get in, but usually won't by a margin of about 50-1. If you really want to go, just ED. They'll still throw you a scholarship bone if you fit their metrics. You meaning anyone.

I'm probably going to Berkeley in the fall, but I'd like to at least have something finite from UVA before I commit.
