Re: South Texas 2011
I have question regarding transportation.
How do you plan on getting to school each day?
I am hoping to live close enough to ride my bicycle, but I heard that not many students do this.
Is there a reason why not? For those of you that are in the same boat as me, looking for a studio apartment that is cheap and close, what are your plans on the commute?
*edit... there is some redundancy in my questions, but the first is for everyone, and the last is more specific

Biking in Houston can be kind of dangerous, but people do it.andrewb414 wrote:I have question regarding transportation.

Light rail is also feasible, as is the bus.
I personally will be driving though.

Re: South Texas 2011
I live less than 5 minutes away from ST, and I'd say biking would be a completely viable option during the day. If you have to stay late or go to the library late, I would agree that I wouldn't want to be biking around downtown Houston at night.
If I get accepted, I will be driving. I'm sure there are parking garages that you can rent a space and pay a monthly rate.

Do you have any apartment recommendations that are near the school?

The weather is going to be your biggest problem if you want to ride your bike. 90+ degrees in August/September/October and major thunderstorms throughout the year.andrewb414 wrote: I am hoping to live close enough to ride my bicycle, but I heard that not many students do this.

Re: South Texas 2011
Typical apartments? Not really, the school is downtown. Right now I live in a townhouse in Midtown.
Downtown you are going to find mostly Condos, though there are some apartment type places near the Ballpark. I think they are pretty expensive though because of their proximity to the park, even though they are in a terrible part of downtown. Living in Houston is really pretty expensive, and to get something at a decent price you may have to go 10 minutes away from the school. If you have an 8am class that 10 minutes could easily turn into 30 depending on traffic.
But just do your research online.

I have heard nothing... I thought this week was the week. Ugh... I'm bummed... Hopefully today they will send the letters out. It seems really unfair to make someone fill out financial aid information if they might not even get accepted.

I have just about decided that all of these postings about decision dates, times, or circumstances are in fact false information plants by either:
1) an admissions employee who has a cruel streak,
2) a former non-admitted applicant who is taking out his/her frustration on those currently waiting.
What do you all think?

I think you've been watching too much Glen Beck. Bad conspiracy theory.
I honestly just think that STCL admissions office received more applications than expected and its a clusterfuck.

Nope..I want to hear just as much as everyone else. They can't make us wait forever. I should have asked if their data input lady quit, because that would make so much more sense.benzarden wrote:Merc or Soften, have you guys heard anything yet?
Also, I lol'ed at moreschool?'s conspiracy theory. I couldn't have dreamed that one up, but you never know about people these days.

nope. plants. all of us.
of the 86 pages of posts in this thread, 95% of them were made my me via various accounts I've registered.
Took me several years to rack up all of the posts on each of these accounts, but it was totally worth it.
and man, you don't know fun 'till you've staged an internet argument with yourself over Louisiana state politics. whooowie that's fun!

Some of you appear to have taken my clearly tongue in cheek "conspiracy theory" far too seriously! It appears that for those still waiting in late April, the sarcasm meter must not be working very well!

Re: South Texas 2011
in all fairness, the line "too much glenn beck" applies if you've seen him at all.
even a picture. a magazine ad. a billboard. anything.
that's too much.
so he was right in that regard.

Does anyone know when the 2nd deposit date is for those that had a first deposit deadline of April 15?

First post. I enjoyed it much more than I had anticipated. I was extremely impressed by the facilities. The deans did a great job on their presentation I think.maxm2764 wrote:For anyone who went to the ASR today, how was it?
Also, I made a few TLS references in casual conversation with 3 or 4 people, and all of them had no idea what I was talking about, lol.

I was also impressed with the facilities. I cut out shortly after the start of the reception so that I could go apartment hunting. That was and still is a daunting task.
