Anybody else get held?

Does anybody know of the acceptance rates of those who were held last year? I'm worried.

I was held and then admitted with a full scholarship (two cycles ago). It's just one anecdote, but don't lose hope just yet.

Why are you worried about being held? Intimacy issues?

Yeah, far better than being dinged. I haven't lost hope, I was just really hoping to have UT as a lock so I could take my t-14 rejections in stride. Glad to know they still have scholarship money available for the held.

Well, according to several leading gay-to-straight camp counselors, I'm gay only because I crave intimacy from a father figure. So, I guess you win this round.

I got held for Regular Decision.

Median LSAT, below 25th GPA. In state. Cool resume.

It makes me nervous seeing people with better numbers getting dinged, but hopeful for my not-so-reaches that UT is considering me rather than auto-ding.

We are in the exact same boat. Are you a URM?

How much does in-state count? I'm only asking because Jim - no offense - your gpa is a lot lower than mine and we have the same lsat...and I just got dinged. Does in-state really count for that much more?

In state is a big deal, from what i understand. At least 65% of the class must be in state so the dynamic/competitiveness within each applicant pool is different. I read an interview with the dean that said the medians are not substantially different, but enough to affect acceptances.

Makes sense. I'm bummed. I should have moved to Texas last year. Here's my semi-ironic, semi-serious sad face: :(

No offense taken, my sad GPA is what it is.

I'm not URM. I did apply Early Action as an in-stater, so they're probably just holding on to me until they fill up the 65% in-state requirement with people with same or better LSATs and better GPA.

Is it bad how much I am hoping Texans scored a little low on their LSATs this cycle?

A&S, are you URM, did you apply EA?

Mexican-American and gay, applied Early Action. Plenty of in-state people were denied- don't let that throw you.
I had several friends with 167's and sub-25's get in off the waitlist, FYI.

Does being gay make you a URM? Do schools take it into account?

You're just rubbing my ding in with this whole 167 sub-25 thang. Damn in-staters.

Five or twenty-five, that's some good unintentional comedy. Haha, sorry about that.

Yeah, your ding seems very surprising. Granted, these kids were waitlisted until the summer and had stout resumes.
No, being gay does not make one an URM, however, it oft provides for compelling personal statements.

I'm going to Austin for work this weekend. Ive only been once before, so I'm pretty excited. I've scheduled a tour. Is there anything on particular I should see?

See the bats, man. See the bats. Then see everything else. Check out Barton Springs, see some live music (anywhere, pretty much), and get some good bbq.

If you have a lot of time to kill and don't mind driving, try The Salt Lick for barbecue. If you like French food, Justine's on the east side is good. If you like pizza, I recommend Home Slice or Mangia. Hyde Park Bar and Grill has a good Kobe burger. Baby Acapulco's for Mexican (try the one in Barton Creek rather than the one on I-35). Papadeaux is always good for seafood. Bodicelli's is pretty cool for Italian. I'll try to think of a few more. I like to eat out.

+1

The bats are cool.
