You'll get a letter in the mail. I got mine in San Antonio about 5 days after I was accepted via status checker. If you look under mailings on your status checker, it will say when they mailed out your letter.

Waitlisted today

161
3.82

kind of surprised. Houston isn't exactly at the top of my list after visiting their rather unattractive university a few weeks ago.

maybe... but I'm 158/3.30 and white, male, and not disadvantaged that i know of so if your numbers seem low, I dont think you should lose hope. That said, any idea how soon they start pulling people off the waitlist, because i dont think I can wait until May or June to know whether or not I'll be allowed to attend UH law?

lol, even as an alumni I'd agree that they don't have the most aesthetically pleasing law building in the world.

I do plan on attending the ASD on 3/25, though. Hope to see some of y'all there. :)

I'm gonna try and make the ASD as well.

I've driven past the law building before and its surprisingly tiny. Unless I was mistaken and that was something else.

Same!

URM Mex-Amer, PM for stats

Anyone know how generous U of H is with scholarship offers?

If they have a GPA "floor", it is pretty low. Or, they still got love for super-splitters.

I've also been a little surprised by the people who are getting waitlisted and rejected. A lot of them seem like they would be good candidates for UH. I wonder if UH hasn't experienced an influx of applicants with very high numbers this year, given what we know about Houston's legal market?

Would this make UH more or less attractive to admitted students? Maybe it bumps them up a spot or two in the rankings, but that doesn't really change Texas law school hierarchy or UH's placement potential.

Word on the street is that Houston is still hiring a lot of grads for biglaw and that it is recovering faster than other markets (like Dallas). UH places better in Houston than any other Texas school save perhaps UT. So yes, I imagine that the higher probability of biglaw placement in Houston would make UH a more attractvie school than say, higher-ranked SMU (which places very poorly in Houston) for those who want biglaw in Texas and don't have a huge preference regarding city. I also imagine that biglaw-or-bust students who can get into higher ranked (but still mainly regional schools) in other markets that aren't doing as well might be giving UH a second look. It's just speculation, but if UH has a more competitive applicant pool this year it might explain why so many applicants with competitive numbers for UH are getting waitlisted.

It doesn't seem to be vastly different from last years waitlists as seen on LSN.

Waitlisted with 3.0/166. Probably wasn't going to attend anyways, but a bit surprising. Congrats on the acceptances.

UH has been trying to become an overall competitive university in Texas. Theyre trying to reach the likes of UT Austin in just about everything. They pushed very hard to achieve tier 1 status when it comes to research, and thanks to all the mba and engineering alumni who are doing very well in the Houston and donating back to the school, they were able to do it.

http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/prin ... earch.html

Now, this is just me speculating, but I can see them striving to reach a better ranking in all their programs, which translates into them becoming a more selective school. Therefore, to increase their law school ranking as far as the us news law school ranking is concerned theyre probably only admitting students with better numbers than their historical values. If this is true, chances are slim for me as I am in the lower portion of the historically admitted numbers, but I still bid good luck to the rest
