I'm getting to the point where I sort of want to know in/out just so I can commit to really falling in love with a school and gearing up to move there! But as long as I have a hogs chance in hell at getting into S I just can't give my heart away... Oh Stanford, you're already like a bad ex-girlfriend and you haven't even rejected me yet :-P
This quote is credited in its entirety.
Exactly. Harvard spoiled me too much man. Heard from them before thanksgiving and thought it would be quick and painless from there.. little did I know that Stanford takes their sweet time.

How on earth could they be considering me for like 4 months?

Oh, Dean Deal, why could my app not make you giddy? Alas. Maybe she did, in fact, miss the <3's in the margin.

UR 11/24

174 (retake)/3.86 - good luck to those still waiting.
Your numbers are TERRIFYING! Those are great numbers to just be getting a straight ding.

Oh SLS! Why do I love you so much? You are so cruel.

What makes SLS so mysterious is that no numbers just get you in. I suspect that once you pass a certain threshold, they are not as much concerned with the numbers.

I mean, it was pretty close to their app deadline. They were probably swamped.

Ok total rookie question here: Is "Under Review" different than "complete and submitted for review" - ? Just trying to make sense of my own chronology:

1. Submitted my application on 12/4
2. Received the status checker link/email on 12/15 - Current Status is "Your file has been submitted for review." as of 12/15. Nothing has changed since.

Haven't seen anything sense. I keep seeing people talk about "complete" and then "UR" - am I UR?

Applicants with better numbers generally get reviewed first at every school. I'm basing this off my 6-day turnarounds at UT and Vanderbilt. I am almost exactly a median LSAT, median GPA kid at Stanford, even after my retake whereas many applicants on here have the # to get into HYC with 1 LSAT. I didn't even apply to Harvard, Yale, and Columbia. IF I get in at all, it will be in April.

Stanford does what Stanford wants. If you're between 167 and 180 AND between 3.8 and 4.33, all bets are off, one way or the other.

Long time lurker here :D Started not to post, but I learned a ton from this site, and I want to be encouraging to people in this thread. Some nice folks here.

In by call this past week. Some vague stats below; might discuss more details via PM.

Sent app in early December. UR mid-December. Admitted in late February. Non-URM. Out of school for a few years. LSAT <25%. GPA ~75%. Softs were very strong (even by harsh TLS standards).

I sent LOCI + additional, targeted LOR. I think these made the ultimate difference--but let's face it: SLS is a total crapshoot. I've been through several competitive admissions processes in the past, and there are few that you can predict with accuracy. My advice to everyone: do everything you can, and then try to relax and wait. (Much easier said than done!) So much luck is involved.

I'll try to answer Qs in this thread or by PM, if I can help anyone.

Congrats!

I was wondering if someone could answer a question for me. I didn't send in targeted letters of recommendation to SLS, and now I feel like i need to write a Why Stanford to express my interest. Would this be a good/bad idea? I know they take additions to your file through email, they just didn't mention anything about supplemental essays, just grade/job/etc. updates.

Thanks!

jrose5, thanks for the well-wishes. I sent a LOCI--but it was really a short "Why Stanford" essay. (Like you, I did not put one in the original application.) It's hard to say whether sending anything is a good/bad idea, because we don't know how the committee reacts to, well, anything. (I.e. In the end, I have no idea what, in particular, tipped the scales in my case.) That said, if you have important things to convey to the committee in that essay, maybe it wouldn't hurt to send it? Just my two cents. Good luck!

Still 1/11 here-Stanford seems to be pulling away from their chronological date method though.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
