I have an 8am Friday class as well, though I'm totally cool with that. After having to be at work everyday at 7 am, I've perfected the hungover get-your-ass-out-of-bed early routine. Plus, our weekends are going to start at 10 am! Which is awesome.

You can find out your section number by looking at the last 3 digits of your course number (ex. 091:364:002 would mean you're section 2. This last number will be the same for all of your classes.)

I'm section 2...anyone else out there? And how great is it we don't have Thursday classes?! :)

Section 2, stand up! Open Thursdays will be awesome. 8AM Friday, not so awesome. Only have to sit thru 2 hours and then freedom! FAC will be a bit early for us.

So, let's post full schedules so that we can figure out which sections are together in large group Lecture?

Contracts 2:20P - 3:40P MTW 225 BLB Steven Burton
Lg Anlys Wrt Rsch I 11:30A - 12:30P TW 275 BLB Lorie E Reins-Schweer
Property 10:30A - 12:30P RF 285 BLB Barry D Matsumoto
Torts 12:40P - 2:00P MTW 235 BLB Christina Bohannan

I have Contracts and Torts with you. Edit: You can look up which sections are together in "Power Registration."

Sweet, that means 2 things:
1. We get to be the first ones at FAC when the bars open
2. I get 8 hours of large-room class to harass Sam every week. Anyone want to join?

Good find, Maahs.

Looks like Section 3 will be chill in with Sections 1, 2, 7, and 8 in Torts, Sections 1, 2, and 4 in Contracts, and section 4 in Property.

Thoughts on my 1L professors:

Bohannan (Torts): One of my favorite professors, easily. She is the "perfect" law professor in that you are going to get the socratic method experience, but if she sees you are struggling she will help you out or find someone else - she isn't going to grill or embarrass you. She does an excellent, excellent job of managing classroom discussions and really gets people engaged. She comes in every day genuinely excited about what she is teaching and really wants to help you. I really have no negative comments, consider yourself very lucky if you have her. Her exam is also very straightforward. I booked her class so if anyone wants advice on how to prepare just let me know (obviously you can PM me later in the semester too, as you all should have more on your mind right now than exams).

Matsumoto (Property): It's an experience, that's for sure. If you are interested in getting the most out of your legal education and actually having an intellectual experience, well... this class won't be your favorite. If you like a laid back, fun atmosphere (which will honestly be a nice break from the rest of your classes), then you'll enjoy this class. Matsumoto probably isn't the best professor to be teaching Property (in fact, I've heard they make him teach it because he hates it, as some sort of punishment for never publishing anything and being generally lazy), but you'll still learn. At the very least his exam is fair. It is going to cover exactly what you learn, no tricks. I did the worst in his class, but that is a combination of (a) not budgeting my time well on the exam (if he does suggested time limits you better be sure to stick to them), and (b) not taking his class seriously throughout the semester. I highly suggest getting a Facebook group together just for that class and then you can all chat and comment on the hilarious things he says during class, as he says them (at least thats what we did, definitely made the class a ton of fun).

Burton (Contracts): Generally the most despised 1L professor. He is incredibly bright and a fairly big name in his field - you will NEVER ask him a question regarding Contracts that he can't answer (or at least say something smart that makes you think he answered your question; either way, you'll feel his intellectual superiority). That said, most people just didn't like him. He is pompous, arrogant, sometimes demeaning, and will absolutely grill you from the start. People dread being called on. TBH it isn't a big deal. I understand people don't like to feel embarrassed, but he asks such difficult, precise questions that everyone is going to feel like they are a moron at some point, so don't worry about it. If you are one of those people who want an intellectual experience, though, you may very well love his class (especially if you like Contracts). His exam was impossible. 4 1/2 hours I think, 72 ridiculously hard MC questions, and an essay I had no idea what to do with. During most of the MC questions I wasn't even thinking, I just guessed with what sounded like it was the right answer. The only reason I did relatively well on his exam was because NOBODY knew what to do with it. Easily my worst exam experience.

Liebig (LAWR): Ties Bohannan for my favorite professor. I wish he still taught substantive classes. Very, very bright guy (as if you couldn't tell from his bio - Yale BA, Harvard JD, Iowa MFA). Great professor to have for legal writing. The kicker is that he is very laid back and down to earth. Very approachable, which is most important for LAWR professors, I think. You will never feel intimidated by how smart he is, and yet you will definitely know he is basically a genius. He also has an excellent approach to feedback: as he reads your writing assignments he will record his thoughts on a tape recorder as opposed to writing them on the sheet. This allows him to give probably double, maybe triple the amount of feedback you would get from any other LAWR professor who just writes stuff in the margins. Listen carefully to what he says on the tapes. He basically sits there and thinks about things out loud, so it gives you a really cool look inside his thought process and you will undoubtedly be rewarded if you answer the concerns he expresses.

Anderson (Intro to Law): Obviously didn't have much exposure to him, but I think he is probably a good professor. Seems like a smart guy, pretty friendly, not too difficult to enjoy being in his class. He might be a little dry, though.

Good luck to everyone with getting adjusted to law school. The first couple weeks are very exciting, if not intimidating. You'll eventually get in the swing of things and become much more comfortable with class.

Yeah right. I hate the library. You can find me at my house in Coralville in my office. Much more productive/less social than the library.

Damn it, Chris. I feel like I'm going to have to stop being so consistently awesome, because you're obviously threatened by it.

For real, though...I'm excited we have eight hours of lectures together! (Everyone is going to hate us, bwahaha.)

I'm counting on you to make lecture fun when it sucks. Can we pass notes like in jr high.

Hmmm if I'm hoping to be a decent lawyer I should probably get my days of the week figured out, huh?

I hope you weren't kidding. I just bought some Lisa frank binders for my outlines. I take it that you are going to keep your lunch and chap stick in your fanny pack?

Can we get an exhaustive list of tls/ lsn names to people. I can recognize half of the people but others I am clueless.

Not everyone is as forthcoming about their internet identity as chrisbru or smiller

I'll start a "out yourself on TLS" post in the Facebook group. That way we don't have to do it on a public forum (I know some of you are nervous about that.) Plus, now I can plug the FB group in case anyone in here hasn't joined yet.

So I'll have early morning classes every day this week, but I'll be done by 1030 on Fridays, which is kind of sweet. Woot Section 5.

Anybody into the Disc Golf/Frolf scene? I've picked it up recently and am a big fan. If so we should def add it to the list of pre-semester festivities.

Let me grab my kush and Birkenstocks, and I'll meet you there.

Just teasing (well kinda). I suck but bring a six pack so I still enjoy it. It's good when you can't afford to golf every day.

Anyone know if finkebine has a late season pass or anything?

I'm trying to figure out what day I want to drive down to Iowa City. All my stuff is already there. I would definitely be up for hosting a mixer at my place if people want. Just so long as Sam does all the set up work, bartending, serving, and clean up :)

2 weeks until the fiance and I move into our apartment in Coralville. After 2.5 days in the car, the dog and the cat are going to need a lot of playtime. Hopefully, after we get things out of the UHaul, we can make it to the dog park and the cat can settle into the new place.

Has anyone else been to Sanctuary? The (future) in-laws and I went after admitted student's weekend, and I was quite impressed by the beer selection and the food. That might be our first night stop.
