Numbers? Minnesota is YP'ing like crazy this year.

I'm still hoping to hear back about scholarship from Iowa SOON! It will make or break my decision process.

Hahah good timing... an hour after I posted that question, an invite to ASD appeared in my inbox.

It's March 24-25.

Save the Date to visit The University of Iowa College of Law

On March 24th and 25th, The University of Iowa College of Law is going to hold its annual Admitted Students Day. This two-day event will be a wonderful opportunity to hear presentations about The College of Law from various points of view: The Dean, the Faculty, a cross section of the Law School student body, alumni from a variety of professional sectors, Financial Aid Officers, Student Services officials and Career Services advisors will be present. You will also be given the opportunity to walk around the College of Law, and become more familiar with the physical setting of our Law School and The University of Iowa campus. This program will assist you in making a fully-informed decision about your law school enrollment plans.

The University of Iowa College of Law remains true and consistent to its strengths: Encouragement of student-faculty interactions; the strength of a national reputation; the strength of our location; a reasonable cost structure; a small entering class size relative to our peer institutions; and an environment which fosters civility. Admitted Students’ Day is your opportunity to learn, first hand, how we have created, developed and nurtured such an environment.

The official invitation, agenda and schedule for Admitted Students’ Day are still being planned and finalized. Once they are complete, we will send them to you. There is no action necessary, or RSVP needed, at this time. We just want to inform you early about the date of the program so that you can plan accordingly. Once again, there is no need to RSVP at this time. That action item will come later.

We look forward to visiting with you in person at The University of Iowa College of Law’s Admitted Students’ Day. As always, we look forward to answering any questions you have. Feel free to contact us. Also, feel free to check our web site to gain updates on current events at the College of Law. Our web site is located at http://www.law.uiowa.edu.

Sincerely,

Collins Byrd

Assistant Dean for Admissions

Sehee Foss

Associate Director of Admissions

PS: No RSVP necessary at this time. Official invitation and RSVP information will come later.

Congrats! Are you in the 167+/3.6+ crowd as well?

Thanks for the congrats! I'm actually a splitter - 164/3.95 (3.97 with fall grade update), so I was pleasantly surprised about the full-tuition! There is a 1/3 class stipulation and also a work-study job my 2L & 3L, but it was still very generous!

Good luck to everyone else who hasn't heard a/b scholarship or acceptances yet!

I submitted on 11/16, complete 11/19, in review 11/30, admitted 12/6 via email, and scholarship letter 12/20

Congrats! is Iowa your best option now?
Thanks! I'm really not sure about where Iowa stands. I would love to graduate with less than $50,000 in debt, BUT I got some scholarship offers from Illinois, W&L, & W&M that makes it hard to decide. I'm also waiting for most of my reach schools to get back to me.

I think it would be helpful to visit Iowa and see if I would like it.

IMHO there is no reason to go to Illinois over Iowa, especially if Iowa is cheaper. The other ones depends on your regional preference.

So I was ACCEPTED to Iowa 2 days ago! I haven't gotten the official packet in the mail, but I'm not gonna hold my breath for scholarship money. I've never visited the campus before but I heard it's pretty. Thanks for the tip about the TA/RA stuff because out of state costs are SO much more expensive. This is probably the best school I can hope to get into but I was WL @ Minnesota and I REALLY like their school the one time I visited. Though my #1 is still UC Davis because I would eventually like to end up back in CA. Still waiting to hear back from everywhere else, but this time next year I'll probably be a Hawkeye! WOOT!

Zero evidence of this, and many people think it is a myth that ANY school does this.
The scholarship students I know are pretty evenly spread between different sections.

This is a laughable rumor, if it is even a rumor. (1) First hand knowledge says there is no stacking. (2) A significant part of the scholarship is being a Research Assistant your 2L and 3L years so you have in state tuition, so its not saving them much money to have such a tactic. (3) You are not curved based on your section, but on your class and only the legal writing class is just your section, so it shouldn't matter even if they did stack.

People are just scared. I'd take it into account that if the scholarship does have a stipulation. I think top 1/3 is within your control. But some would disagree, well 2/3 of the class would disagree. So take it into account when making decisions.

I had something in the mail from Iowa today. It was just a letter regarding the FAFSA of course, but I was excited for a minute.

For those of you who received scholarships, Congrats! Is the scholarship mailing by any chance listed on your status checker?

Does anyone know if you gain Iowa residency after living there for a year? Instate tuition would be beautiful.

(Double posted because I posted earlier and want this to shoot to the front)

Got put on preliminary waitlist through status checker today.

2.95/167. Good luck to all. This probably is the end of my interest in Iowa.

Non-resident students are able to gain resident status for tuition purposes if they do a research assistantship their second year. From what I have been told almost every non-resident is able to snag a RA.

Anyone been accepted off the preliminary waitlist? Or do we probably have a long time to wait yet?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
