To add...I had already completed the need access form months earlier so I received my fin aid award letter that same day at like 4:30pm. THEN, early this afternoon I received a scholarship offer via email from Davis...it's a small offer but enough to make my decision that much harder.

Now I need to go back and read all those Hastins vs. Davis threads.

Did Sharon send you the scholarship offer? That's what I'm waiting on.

Have you checked out the Facebook c/o 2014 page? You'll probably get some hits there. Also, there's a spreadsheet on the admitted students website...that's where I found my housing :)

Yup. Friday July 8th. I keep leaning different directions. When I first got the email last week I was 100% Davis, but much weight has gone to already being committed to a school and the mindset that goes with it.

Is it weird to turn down a school (Davis) that was your 2nd choice during apps?

Its such an honor to be offered admission at a Top 25 school, and the fact that I'm balking is crazy, let alone the insanity that I may not accept.

What it comes down to is that 3 months ago I would have chosen Davis w/o a doubt...but it isn't 3 months ago...and Davis isn't given me a half tuition scholarship either..

Yeah, I'm going to have to turn down the offer. Even with the grant, Davis is going to be $15k more expensive per year than Minnesota.

I wouldn't say that's crazy at all. Davis was my number one choice during apps, and i've been waitlisted, but if i got in off the waitlist and they didn't give me near the amount of money that Hastings has given me then i would choose Hastings. If you asked me that 3 months ago i would have told you i'm choosing Davis no matter what.

That's just how the admissions process is, you have to be smart about it and look after your best interests. In a crappy market like we have now, reducing your debt as much as you possibly can is pretty important, especially if you're deciding between two similarly regarded schools. Half tuition is pretty significant, i'd rather be 60-70k in debt than 120-140k any day LOL. Where are you committed already?

Awesome! Congrats to you too Cool!

And I'm not yet sure what I'm going to do about housing. I know absolutely no one in Davis so I am leaning toward a small, cheap (but clean) one bedroom.

You?

SBL, where are you??? Any suggestions on housing? Oh, and can I have copies of your outlines? That's right, I stalk you here on TLS! ;-)
