Obviously, you caught me being somewhat hypocritical in my use of US News's reputation information. However, if you somehow understood me to be saying that you should focus solely on that metric, I must not have been clear enough. What I was attempting to communicate is that the self reported employment data in US News should not be your primary source for comparing how law schools place their students into the real world. I even listed several other methods to consider. But, I have to disagree with your assertion that it isn't important to consider what firms think of you. In the legal hiring world, your law school's reputation does matter. I won't clog up this thread anymore.

I don't see an official Facebook page for admitted students. A more thorough search revealed one law school group with 7 members though (last I checked).

ku is probably an overseas applicant. that's how emory does it for those students.

and to an earlier poster: there is no such thing as *gasp* actual employment data. there just isn't. firm reputational rankings are at least as reliable an indicator as employment data us news uses. i imagine there are a few incredulous recent grads and 3Ls at some of the schools reporting 90% employment. maybe not though, that is pure speculation since, as i said, there are no reliable data on the matter.

those are good indicators but obviously don't tell the whole story. nor are they the employment data us news uses. reporting employment data to us news is the wild west.

I don't know where you're going with this. both firm reputation rankings and us news employment data are unreliable metrics to measure employment. you shouldn't be using either when there is much better data available.

i'm saying there aren't much better data available that actually tell the story, and one metric as as good (in this case, as bad) as the next. what i'm not saying is that firm rep rankings are gospel and patently better than anything. i don't think i even referenced firm reputation rankings in the stuff you quoted. nlj250 data and clerkship data tell a fraction of the story. that may be the only fraction you care about, and that's fine.

Doesn't matter. People who read that article and believe everything in it are morons anyway.

Well if people are saying firm reputations and the US News data are inaccurate measures, what would you use to measure employment and such instead?

seriously????

you know how transparency could get real?
we need a current student to get a list of graduates from a certain class, then look them up online. You will find if they are working, where, what types of employment, size of firm, and a brief bio about the graduate's background. still wouldnt complete the puzzle, but would be pretty damn close, and much better than only NLJ 250 big law placement and clerkships ( i dont even consider the school's self reported info).
now, if a few kids from each school did this, there would be a much better picture as to who is telling the truth. Future law students will make better informed decisions as to where to invest our large sums of cash, and several lawsuits would also ensue.
all in all, a damn good idea that would only take a few hours to execute.
