Here's to wishful thinking. I hope you're right. Emory will be bombarded with LOCIs over the next 48 hours.Eagles_Legendz wrote:I think anything 170+ is probably YP.
I have absolutely no information or experience to back this up, but I feel like if you write a LOCI with a 170 and decent gpa and get off the waitlist, there's a strong chance you get a scholarship. I could be completely incorrect with that though.

Do you guys know if Emory's prestige pulls any weight in Texas? Emory's better ranked and more nationally acclaimed than schools such as SMU or UH, but still very much a regional based school. Do you guys think it's possible to leverage a JD degree from Emory to fight into the Texas market?

All I have is anecodtal experience, but yes. I know a handful of biglaw attys in Dallas, and they all said Emory would be looked at favorably on a resume. Didn't ask how it compared to SMU b/c I didn't apply there, but they said Emory > WUSTL for Dallas. Don't know about Houston, but probably the same and maybe better given UofH isn't as well regarded as SMUlokist86 wrote:Do you guys know if Emory's prestige pulls any weight in Texas? Re: Emory 2011
When I asked a recent / past graduate of GW LAW that subsequently did big law in NYC and then Miami, about Emory, first comment was its a nationally recognized school. Hence, despite the strong regional ties to Atlanta and the SE, clearly an Emory degree will carry weight on a national scale. Youd be hard pressed to find someone, that actually matters in your career, that has not heard of Emorys National reputation. I wouldnt worry. Just try to do well. The rest will fall into place.Hope this helps.

For those about to visit in the next couple weeks, bring extra antihistamine. Our pollen counts exceeded 3900 today (Extremely High >1500 grains/m3). The city is beautiful with azaleas in bloom, but everything is covered in a thin yellow/green sheet of dust. Hopefully the worst will be behind us for the 4/8 - 4/9 visit days.

Re: Emory 2011
I did both last year because, while I liked Emory, I still wasn't 100% sold after my first visit. So, I'd go if you still have some questions or apprehensions and it wouldn't be too much of an inconvenience for you. Also, ASW is a great place to look for a roommate...I know a bunch of people who met their roommates and decided where they were going to live that weekend.bigredforlaw wrote:I recently visited emory and did the general info session, class visit, tour, and career services session. Can you get a decent place plus utilities for under $700/month?

Re: Emory 2011
I can't wait to come to ASW. I've never seen the campus before but, from what I've seen in pictures, it looks incredible. I don't mean to derail anyone's questions (e.g., the poster right above me, who has a much more important inquiry), however, I was wondering where, besides one's own room, is the most ideal places to study on campus. For example, the library looks beautiful yet a friend of mine, who goes to Emory UG, says that the library is a war-zone come finals time. The quad looks like a great place to sit down and grind some reading out (especially through pictures of the I've seen of Emory in Fall). Any thoughts?

Yes you can get a place for around 700 with utilities. ProMove is a great resource for people unfamiliar with the area. Also Emory's off-campus housing finder is a good place to find furnished rooms or carriage houses in addition to apartments. I've posted the link a couple times in this and other threads. As for study locations, if libraries are your preference, the med school/health sciences library was almost always deserted a few years ago. It's on the "other side" of campus. The bridge seems to be the outer boundary of where undergrads are willing to venture. Atlanta is also full of great coffee shops and public libraries that are great if you need different locales to stay focused.

Also for anyone who is definitely doing Emory and looking to sign a lease at Post Briarcliff, there is a $300 referral bonus so let me know and I will split it with you. I lived at Campus Crossing last year and since that was its first year they didn't have a program but I think they do now. Pretty sure there are a few CC people on here.

Hey everyone, I'm sure this post is bound to get some unwanted reactions, BUT I am a female who currently lives with all males and is looking to continue this next year. I'll be a 1L next year and I'm looking for male roommates preferably to rent a house, not an apartment, but I'm flexible. Send me a private message if interested!

So the ASD thread that's up is rather weak... Do we have a lot of people on here attending the Atlanta ASD?
