They probably saw your Feb LSAT and were like

You're one of the first TLS'ers that I've seen get in off a WL

typ3, do you think it is worth sending an e-mail about negotiating my scholarship?

Congrats on killing the Feb. LSAT and even more congrats on being accepted. Please check back when you get the packet in the mail to advise of any scholarship info, if you don't mind.

Accepted off the WL by phone today, with money.

It can't hurt. You have a good LSAT, but it is below the median. Your GPA may more than make up for that, though. It's not as if they'll take your scholarship away if you ask for a bit more help.

I wonder if that means I didn't get any $. She didn't say anything.

Congrats, by the way.

Thanks for the advice, ScrabbleChamp. I'll draft my letter today. :)

If you check out LSN it looks like, for a few years now, that 167 and up is the mark to shoot for. I had a bad cumulative GPA, decent undergrad GPA (with upward trend) and a 167 and solid writing skills (used to write for a newspaper).

FTFY.

Dude. We get it. You're upset that Minnesota waitlisted you. Please go lurk somewhere else.

Whoa... I'm hardly lurking. I'm just checking in so I know what's going on in case I get pulled off the waitlist and my gf doesn't get in to Iowa or St. Ambrose. I'm not at all upset... I already knew I was going to be waitlisted, due to my dismal GPA. I can show you in my "law school expectations" spreadsheet (I'm a nerd.)

However, the fact of the matter still remains... 170+ means waitlist around 70% of the time, according to LSN from this year.

Thanks. She didn't initially say anything to me either. I had to ask her. It certainly wouldn't mean you didn't get money if she didn't mention it. The information should be in the packet. Good luck.

Did you have any drastic changes in your application, or was this out of the blue? I sent in an email earlier today asking about my status, so I'm hoping instead of replying, they just call to tell me I've been accepted, since they do seem to be making some decisions today. :D Ahh, dreams...

Dude does have a point. There's a corridor of 167-169 admits followed by a smattering of 170+ waitlists.

I hope it works out for you, man. Did you write them a LOCI and say, "hey, UMN, I really want to go here and you know you want a monster like me - let's do this thing."

Feel free to copy and paste.

I sent two emails. The first was a pretty frank explanation about the fact that finances are going to play a major role my decision making (even though I've been accepted to higher ranked schools). I sent that two weeks ago.

Then I send a very traditional LOCI last week.

Cool. I didn't send a "Why UMN" essay when I applied, so when I was waitlisted, I sent one... That was about 3 weeks ago. I'm thinking of writing an LOCI tonight and sending that in, as well.

Haha no, I'm waiting to see what happens with the gf. If she gets rejected by Ambrose and Iowa, I'll send an LOCI. I REALLY don't want to turn down my full-ride at Iowa though... And may deal with 3 years of long distance anyway.

Did they send you a confirmation email when you sent in your "Why UMN"? If not, send an LOCI. Even if they did, I don't think it would hurt.

They did, but I'm going to mention new stuff in the LOCI. I figure the worst that will happen is it will annoy them to the point of realizing I really want to attend, and maybe that'll give my file the extra push it needs to be admitted. Wait... maybe that's the best that can happen.

Do they typically notify you of scholarships by phone or do you have to wait for the admit packet? I was admitted by voicemail today but did not get any information about scholarships.

I didn't get any scholarship info till the packet. Pretty sure that's the case for most applicants.

TITCR

It's page 2, btw. I freaked out at first cause I expected it in the acceptance letter. It's right behind that.

Mailing my withdrawal letter tomorrow. 25k back in the pot. Great offer, great school, but same price as GW, which is where I think I'll go if nowhere else pans out. Best of luck to those of you waiting for a decision, and I hope waitlisted people get some good news soon.
