I've been waiting a similar amount of time at some other schools as well and then been accepted so i would not be too worried about it

Got the exact same 28k/year as WUSTL. Moves UMN into the lead.

Has anyone had anyone luck getting travel reimbursement approved for a non-ASW trip?
The $750 seat deposit is pretty early and pretty steep, the only earlier one for schools i've applied to is April 1st at WUSTL, and they are the only two schools thus far to offer me money, I feel trapped. Don't know if I can get time off work to visit both let alone go to ASWs.

Even on my informal visit to W&M I was the most dressed-down person on the tour in khakis and a cardigan.

I'll probably wear jeans and a button-down with a jacket or sweater for most of the time, might dress it up for the dinner. I'm from California, though, so I (and most everyone else I work with) wear that to work.

For what it's worth, I'm going to Minnesota ASW in April and would be happy to check in on any questions you had. My wife and I are in a similar boat. It's not just getting the travel days, it's the cost of flying out there and then potentially putting down a $500-$750 seat deposit somewhere in the next couple weeks. Right now we have a gut feeling about a couple schools/cities (Twin Cities being one) and we're gonna check those first. If we fall in love with an area then we can forgo the rest of the trips.

As for WUSTL vs. UMN, I'd pick Minnesota 10 times out of 10. Part of that's based on the marked differences in the economy, politics and the crime rate. But my wife and I are also looking to start having kids once I graduate from law school so that might be cause for me to skew a decision toward those factors.

I dunno, follow your gut and good luck.

The $750 early deposit really put me off. I don't know if I will attend without an extension.

I wish they would have given me what WUSTL did. WUSTL said "Hey, you're pretty cool, here's $20k a year"... MN, unfortunately, said "2.96 and a 171? WTF who are you? Go someplace else... Unless you really want to, then you can sit on the waitlist."

$20k at UMN would have made my decision very easy. Oh well, hawkeyes > gophers.

Are extensions something that can actually happen?

I was wondering the same thing, but I have to move in May, so a deposit extension won't do me much good since I'll have to decide fairly early anyway to have a chance to find a decent apartment.

Since UMN says the waitlist isn't ranked, does anybody have a clue how waitlisted applicants are chosen for open spots?

I imagine you use the strategy you would for every law school. LOCI+extra LOR+diversity statement coupled with a "if accepted i would definitely go" vibe

Signing something in blood would probably help.

Is there any rule/code preventing a WL applicant to flat out say they will attend if admitted off the WL?

No. Law schools like committment. Just be ready to attend if accepted from the waitlist regardless of cost.

This. However, I would have a hard time telling someone they should attend somewhere like Minnesota off the waitlist if they are out of state or aren't from SD or WI (reciprocity states). I don't know if I could justify sticker at UofM.

3rd updated In Review date: 3/7.

Isn't there a trend of the third IR date being close to a DR date?

Seems that way. My third IR date actually changed to my DR date not even fifteen minutes later.

why do you say this? I am a californian and would love to get off the waitlist and most likely attend. I just need one month's heads up so i can make preparations.

Did anyone else attend last weekend's ASW? It really solidified the school in my mind.

I think the point was about the price of out-of-state tuition. Estimates are $40,000 with additional fees and COL bringing the annual price tag to about $60,000. If you're coming in off the waitlist as OOS, you're not likely to get much scholarship (you might, but likely won't) so you're going to be paying $10,000-$15,000 more per year than similar schools. I got a $22,000 award and while I'm a strong lean to UMN, I'm at least considering the 3/4 and full tuition offers I got to some of the lower T1s, high T2s. Hell, the $30,000 you pocket in the difference is a downpayment on a house (at least back when you actually had to have those).
