Re: Minnesota 2011
Do you guys know if Minnesota gives any preference to Minnesota residents, even if it's not on the level of the boost that Texas gives to Texans? For example, does a Minnesotan with a 164 or 165 and 3.7x GPA stand a good chance of admittance and how might the time that the application is sent in affect this (For example late September versus mid to late January)?
This is really a question for my boyfriend. who is a Minnesotan and is awaiting his LSAT. He is most likely waiting for Fall 2012, but he still might throw an application to Minnesota for the current cycle to see what happens just in case. He's still waiting on the December LSAT, which is hard to predict, but he was PT-ing at 165-167.

I think they give in-state preference at least for YP situations.framboozer wrote:Do you guys know if Minnesota gives any preference to Minnesota residents, even if it's not on the level of the boost that Texas gives to Texans? Re: Minnesota 2011
It can't hurt to apply this cycle. Minnesota seems to have a 167 LSAT preference, even with that gpa but apply anyway. Get the app in ASAP though so it will go complete as soon as the score comes out. Earlier makes. Big difference.framboozer wrote:Do you guys know if Minnesota gives any preference to Minnesota residents, even if it's not on the level of the boost that Texas gives to Texans? Just curious if anyone has had this happen to them....
I received an acceptance as a visiting student (I applied for full time next fall), some information and an attached Waitlist PDF. A few minutes later I received an email that waitlisted me with the same attachment.
Bastards for getting me excited for a minute. Also surprised Minnesota has had so many glitches in their cycle this year.

Re: Minnesota 2011
I bumped from In Review "12/14" to In Review "12/23"
I'm really hoping for a phone call/e-mail/singing telegram at some point today. Anyone know how they let people know about waitlist or rejections?

Re: Minnesota 2011
Still IR as of 12/23. Hoping for a phone call today or tomorrow.
Side note: Any thoughts on where to live in Minneapolis? I stopped up while I was back in the midwest for Christmas, and checked out a handful of places. I really liked 2 places downtown (West side, so still a bit of a trek to West Bank Campus) and 2 places in Uptown (killer neighborhood, far from school). Any thoughts on where to live? Also, those places were pretty pricey... Any advice on where to live for ~$800/month for 1bed, $1200/month for 2bed/2bath?

Re: Minnesota 2011
Uptown is pretty awesome, but might prove to be a bit distracting with all its bright shiny lights. Sorry, I can't give any further advice because I live in a South Minneapolis house with a friend of mine and I pay $500/mo. for rent (but it's a pretty arbitrary/good amt. considering I know her.) If you have a car, try looking further away from Uptown/Downtown for cheaper rentchrisbru wrote:Still IR as of 12/23. Hoping for a phone call today or tomorrow.

Northeast is a great area and decently close to UMN. Loring Park is also a great location.

Nicely done!! I really regret not getting a couple more points on my LSAT. I have a 4.0+ LSDAS GPA and I'd love full schollies over my bare minimum acceptances =/paulinaporizkova wrote:Just got a full scholly to UMN in the mail. Acceptance call on 12/23... Holy crap...

IR 11/18, then moved to 12/03, then moved to 12/16. Still waiting!
MN is certainly a reach for me, but I am still checking my phone and online status quite often. Why don't they just ding me and get it over with?

That is fantastic! Since you're a resident, did you happen to apply to William Mitchell? The U of M is a better school but I am curious if you applied to WM and received a scholly there as well.

Thank you! I did not apply to Billy Mitchell; the only school I applied to out of T14 was the U of M and I applied to the U not intending to go there....at least when I applied...so this is going to be a tough/interesting cycle for meILoveCaffeine wrote:paulinaporizkova wrote:Just got a full scholly to UMN in the mail. Thank you so much!! I can't decide if I love full schollies or bare minimum acceptances at Top 10 schools more. I guess we'll seeAggiegrad2011 wrote:Nicely done!! Heh, it's so funny, I'm getting full schollies at tier 2 schools and bare min. acceptances at tier 1 schools and you're getting full schollies at tier 1 schools and bare min. acceptances at top 10. 5 points makes a world of difference!paulinaporizkova wrote:Thank you so much!! Well thank you! And I would love to get into a Top 5 school (like so many people on this website seem to be able to do) but it's just never gonna happen, so we all have our limitsAggiegrad2011 wrote:Heh, it's so funny, I'm getting full schollies at tier 2 schools and bare min. acceptances at tier 1 schools and you're getting full schollies at tier 1 schools and bare min. acceptances at top 10. 5 points makes a world of difference!paulinaporizkova wrote:Thank you so much!! edit: it's also true for me that probably 2 lost points on the LSAT (which would have been 2 more questions correct, in my case) probably would have made that Top 5 dream a reality. Isn't the LSAT fun
