Wait the scholarship info is in the email? Huh I thought it was only via snail mail. So you got the email today? When did you get the phone call, yesterday?

As for residency, I think it's difficult if your primary purpose for being there is school. I think after you rent an apartment and live there a couple months (maybe try to get a job there this summer?) and apply for a driver's license that would help. You know, somehow demonstrate an interest in staying post graduation. Also might depend on your age--if you're under 25 and your parents don't live in Minnesota (especially if you receive financial "gifts" from them) you might have trouble. This is of course pure speculation on my part and I am not an accountant or anything.

Went from In Review 2/4 to 2/15...consensus that this is not a good sign?

Mine went IR on 2/11 then never changed until I got the phone call earlier.

Thanks for the residency info. I'm over 25, not getting any financial help, and plan to move wherever I end up attending this summer to find work/get settled into a place. So maybe that will help.

Also, I think I got scholarship info (as well as several other letters that were scanned as pdf) as an email attachment because I'm living abroad and this is more convenient than snail mail. And yes, my mom got the call yesterday (although they couldn't tell her anything).

There's a guy named Dennis Jansen who's a 3L at Minnesota. I know of him because he has a personal blog in which he discusses his life in law school. I don't know him personally, but I do know that he mentioned he was from out of state, and that he's a nice guy willing to respond to people. You might email him about residency stuff. I don't think he's an international student, but he might be able to poit you in the right direction.

So I was denied admission, after lingering under review for a while. My stats were below both medians so I'm not surprised, although I made it clear that UMN was my first choice by far. Anyway, I'm curious to know if the following would be completely tactless - I would like to email the admissions office to inquire as to what exactly made my application not an immediate auto-ding. In other words, could they speak to anything specific in my application that they liked. Is sending this email uncouth? The way I feel, I paid $75 for the privilege of them reviewing my file, the least they could do is give me some insight.

My status checker updated from 'In Review 2/11' to 'In Review 2/15,' any one have any thoughts on the implications? Is this a bad omen? Thanks.

Went IR today with File Complete 1/18. What's the average turn around time here?

This was my second. I'm wondering if the updated status with no adcom response is a positive or a negative? Not just for UM, but in general.

For what it's worth, after my 3rd IR date I received a wait list email about 15 minutes later.

What's my likelihood of negotiating my scholarship offer with UMN?

I know they probably won't care about the boat load of money that IU threw at me, but would they be willing to negotiate against a better offer from WUSTL or (possibly) Emory?

I've read through the thread, most of it anyway, and the emerging thought is that obtaining in-state residency ins't too easy in Minnesota. Some additional scholoarship love would be a welcome relief.

Okay, I'm a little confused here. I've been under review since 12/23, no movement, nothing. That's not too unusual, I guess, except that I should be an auto-reject according to LSP and the information that they give to LSAC. So, since I've been under review for two months in a week, would y'all consider this a good thing or maybe a case of they laughed so hard at my app they forgot to reject me?

I'm just freaking out over my cycle, all 5 decisions I've gotten so far have been dings, so please forgive my diarrhea of the keyboard here.

Edit: Oh yeah, I'm URM black male 161/2.5x

With your numbers, my best guess is that your application doesn't read well.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
