Re: Georgia 2011 Applicants
I think it might have been discussed earlier but UGA seems to have been only letting in some very high numbers recently - according to LSN only like 2 or so (non urm) people who have listed being accepted have had LSATs below UGA's 75% (165) - That can't continue the entire cycle unless UGA is looking to break into the t14JenDarby wrote:I have a 168 and my app was held for further review. I've been accepted to some higher ranked schools, and don't think I made any egregious errors in my app. I think they just don't really like me, apparently my LSAT and pulse aren't enough.Sandro777 wrote:Just thought this was weird - LSP has me at 16% Deny with my stats. LSAC's official guide puts me at 55-75%.
Wasn't UGA accepting anyone over 165 last year who had a pulse?
Your numbers are auto admit for UGA it would seem like. Maybe they are getting a ton of apps due to jumping from 35-28 but I cant see them sticking to ppl with good GPAs and +75% lsats for too much longer.

I have an uncle who swears UGA is the "the Harvard of the south" I call bullshit everytime. Great school, but Harvard of the south? Anyone care to fill me in?
FTR, this specific uncle is an idiot 99% of the time.

If anything, Duke is the Harvard of the South.SrLaw wrote:I have an uncle who swears UGA is the "the Harvard of the south" I call bullshit everytime. Great school, but Harvard of the south? Anyone care to fill me in?

A lot of people swear UF is the Harvard of the South for UG more specifically. Its completely false but its fun to make fun of them for thinking that.SrLaw wrote:I have an uncle who swears UGA is the "the Harvard of the south" I call bullshit everytime. Re: Georgia 2011 Applicants
Duke is the Harvard of the South. That is it's nickname. Florida isn't even the best undergrad in the SEC. Vanderbilt is private, but it is definitely the top SEC undergrad.
3.7/169 from UGA undergrad. Below average softs, LoRs from a professor who earned his PhD there, an alumni from the undergrad and law schools who is a family friend, and an alumni from the undergrad and pharmacy schools who has been a state congressman for years. I sent in my application Friday (1/7/11), and turned in the certification letter late in the afternoon. My status still says incomplete, but I imagine it will become complete tomorrow morning.
I am pretty sure I am auto-admit for UGA law school, but I am hoping to get some $$. I love Athens and am from Georgia, so this is my top choice at the moment. It would be nice to get a UGA JD without drowning in debt upon graduation.

Re: Georgia 2011 Applicants
look at UGA's admissions data from last year. Even in the 2.75-2.99 / 165-169 range I'm in (high end of GPA/middle lsat) they offered admission to 15 out of 17 applicants. If you had a similar LSAT range and any higher GPA you were almost a 98% chance of getting in or something really high.

If last year's admissions are somewhat close to this years it would seem so. I have no idea about money.SrLaw wrote:so I am in at 3.4/167?

Re: Georgia 2011 Applicants
Looking through last years thread, it seems highly unusual my app was held for further review with 168/3.58.
I did disclose two painfully minor alcohol incidents from my freshman year of UG, but I really don't think my disclosure should be enough to have a significant effect. I reviewed my app just to see if maybe I typed "I hate Georgia" in my PS and couldn't find it.

How much does in state boost really give for UGA? I need all the boost I can get and have Georgia residency.

In state at UGA = +2 LSAT points (at least)

I applied at the end of january last year and still got $. However, I was one of the last to get in before they started running out of room. So do it now.bartleby wrote:Is it too late to apply to Georgia? Thinking about applying after visiting ATL...

Any other December retakers/first time LSAT takers yet to have UGA request your updated score report? LSAC lists them as being the only school I applied to having not generated the update...

It is warm there. I know it is an hour or so away from Atl, but I like Atl. I also went up to Chicago-- to just peep Depaul and Kent (friend goes to UChicago) and I would honestly turn down UChicago/Northwestern for Georgia/Emory - not that I would get into any of those schools.Sandro777 wrote:What made you want to apply based off visiting ATL?bartleby wrote:Is it too late to apply to Georgia? Weather is a huge factor for me. 1L should be miserable no matter what, right? Add in frigid weather & static electricity and I think I'd kill myself.
