My question: Does WUSTL place at all to NYC?
Actually, I have. I didn't feel unsafe personally... Although yes, I could feel that it was a rough part of town. I guess I don't spook very easily, and am quite convinced that random muggings etc. are just that... Random, and very few and far between.

I didn't take NU into account, because isn't it actually Evanston, not Chicago? Either way, though, you're right. Northwestern is very nice. I felt super weird there, though, because everyone was very stiff and wasn't very midwestern friendly.

Common mistake: NU's in Evanston, but the law school's just off Michigan Avenue on the lake, in the Gold Coast.

NU undergrad is in Evanston and the law school is in downtown Chicago.

Also, Evanston isn't really all that safe itself....

Depends where you live in the city (of Evanston). But this is a major digression.

No mention of a stipend in my acceptance letter either, but I emailed WUSTL to request one. They emailed me another copy of an acceptance letter, this time with the stipend mentioned. Weird, but I'll take it? You should try the same

No. This means they haven't even looked at your app yet, so an LOCI would be a waste of time for both you and WUSTL adcomms. Numbers? My guess is that you're not a strong enough applicant (sorry if that's harsh) to be reviewed this early, and they'll get to you when it's your turn.

So I've been obsessing over this question - does admissions look at your numbers BEFORE they put you under review? I thought "Under Review" meant they were looking at me for the first time, numbers and all. Does it mean something more significant than that?

Sorry I keep bugging you chrisbru...

This is what Chris has told me...

In theory, what you're saying is true. In practice, they cheat and get a quick and dirty look at your #s before putting you in review. This is because they want to look at/admit their best candidates first.

It might be something like how colleges will review applicants. Incoming files are recorded into the computer. In recording, the SAT, SAT II, GPA and maybe a few other things are entered into a type of formula that will spit out a number. Say, the number ranges from 1-5. If you have high standardized test scores and high GPA your number is closer to 5. That is put on your application. So, when admissions committe decides to review, they know the numerical strength of the applicant by just looking at that one number that is on the cover page of your app.

In an attempt to put this subject to rest, it shouldn't be surprising that schools use an index of LSAT/GPA as a time-saving way of sorting files and prioritizing the review of different files. That being said, I think everyone has felt the pain of a long review at certain schools.

Did anyone apply for the Webster Society scholarship? I sent my JD app in via LSAC a few weeks ago and then just emailed my short statment 2 days ago to be considered for the Webster. I sent it to both Admissions and Fin Aid as there was really no other instruction for folks who sent in their JD app and scholarship statment at seperate times. Looking at last year's boards, it seems like Webster decisions aren't made until April.

that's not that long, it's later in the cycle so they have a lot more apps to sift through in general. you'll get in.

If you're willing to drive 25-30 minutes, pretty much all of West County is a really nice area, nice schools, etc.

Hard to find a much better place to grow up - in any city - than Kirkwood or Webster.
