Can anyone speak to safety at Wash U--maybe a current Wash U undergrad?

I had a close family friend who went to SLU and was attacked and hurt very badly. I know St. Louis is dangerous, but how safe is the areas surrounding the school?

Thanks!

Use common sense and you'll be fine.

Should we expect more decisions this week?

If you really want to live somewhere safe, get an apartment in Clayton. It's an upscale suburb just to the west of campus, but I think they have some decently priced rental units.

I feel like the "safety" issues in STL are overblown...although the big city rules apply (don't get stupid drunk and try and start shit with people, don't walk around alone at 3am in a sketchy area if you're a girl, etc.). Some of the neighborhoods where students like to live (U City, Central West End) have a pretty decent nightlife, but like any other city, nightlife draws out some sketch-pads as well, so use common sense and good judgement.

The campus is open and honest if there's ever a threat to someone's safety, and if there's a mugging, etc. in the area, they'll email the entire school and tell people where it happened and what the suspect looked like. We had some guy mug a couple of people near campus earlier this year (no one was hurt but he took their wallets), but they eventually caught him. We got e-mail updates on a daily basis about the situation.

It's really not terrible, though. When the weather was nicer out, I used to ride my bike a lot, even at night. A couple times, I rode back from downtown to my place at 3am...I never had any problems.

Woo just got the admitted students email and $200 travel waiver. Who's visiting for ASD and when??

And as always good luck to those waiting on decisions!

Edit: Current WUSTL'ers, best month of Jan/Feb/Mar to visit?

I think I'm going to wait until March... I'm only going to visit if the scholarship offer is strong enough for me to still want to go!

Good call, I definitely want to see some other admissions decisions, and some $, first as well. I'm still stoked, though :)

Seconded. I think the only thing that I'm slightly concerned about WUSTL is how well they place in Denver and Minneapolis... Since those are really the only two places I want to be after graduation!

I got it this morning as well, I definitely want to visit (assuming I get some $ of course)!

Is WUSTL slower than other schools in going complete?
Or did some of you go complete in a few days (compared to 7, 14, 21 days to go complete)?

I submitted 12/2, received my status checker and went complete 12/6, and was accepted12/17.

I never went under review, just received an acceptance email. I'm at their 75th LSAT and median gpa, FWIW. Their LSAT range is very broad, they might be trying to get people in on the upper end first.

So when do scholarship decisions come out for those of us that have been admitted?

Submitted 12/13
Complete 12/27
In Review 12/29!

This is bad for my heart... I can't take it. I'm viewing the quick in review turnaround time as a good thing for no reason at all, other than for the sake of my sanity.

Indeed, a happy new year's eve it would be...

Your numbers are very similar to mine, though I'm a bit more extreme both ways... GL to you, and here's to avoiding a long stint on the WL!

(sorry if this is discussed earlier in the forum) Did anyone get more than one complete date before they went UR? My first complete date was something like 12/17 and now it's 12/28.
