I would speak directly to either Melanie Nutt or Janet Cromer. Also, once April 1st passes, I'm sure they will redistribute money to other people, but it would help if you spoke to them and they had your name in their heads.mizzjasmine07 wrote:So can anyone tell me how you go about talking to the financial aid department to discuss possible scholarship money if you weren't offered any? Should I just send an email to the "general " financial aid email or make time to talk to them direstly at asd this friday?

Re: Wake 2011
Is anyone else waiting to hear back from UNC after being accepted to Wake?
I am getting really frustrated with UNC's admissions team and judging by the boards everyone else is too. They will have a decision to me by May 1st, thanks UNC.
If Wake would just give me a scholarship then I would probably commit to them but still waiting for the April 1st redistribution.
I went to UG at UNC and love Chapel Hill but think that their admissions process might reflect the way they treat students and that is a worry for me while WF has been incredible with managing emails and the whole application process.

I'll be withdrawing soon (probably by Monday) throwing back $60K, so hopefully there will be enough money turned down that they can redistribute to y'all.

Re: Wake 2011
I am waiting on UNC as well. At the moment UNC is actually my first choice, but I won't be able to go there without sufficient scholarship money. Even if I do find out about UNC before April 1st, I doubt I'll hear about a scholarship til after and my deposit is due at Wake on April 1st.boom_cs wrote:Is anyone else waiting to hear back from UNC after being accepted to Wake?

As an accepted applicant, you are invited to compete for the Donald L. Smith/Manila G. Shaver Scholarship. The scholarship was established in 2006 and pays an amount up to $20,000 for the 2011-2012 academic year. It is renewable for each year of attendance.
The Smith/Shaver Scholarship is awarded to a person who has strong connections beyond college ties to the State of North Carolina and who demonstrates financial need. A two page essay is required focusing on your North Carolina connections and background as well as your financial need.
Your essay will be read by our scholarship committee and a winner will be selected prior to our deposit deadline of April 15th, 2011.
Ø Please send your essay to the Admissions Office to Jenny Hutcherson, no later than April 8th, 2011.
If you have any questions, please email hutcheja@wfu.edu.
Sincerely yours,
Melanie E. Nutt
Director of Admissions and Financial Aid

I thought it was weird that I got it, because I have absolutely no ties to NC, I've only been there once. I won't be applying for it.

I did, and I got a little more than that which might explain it. Wouldn't make sense to offer it if it would reduce my aid package. So I guess I can't add it with my current stuff.

Well my current scholarship is 20K/yr so it wouldn't make sense that it wouldn't be added to your initial scholarship. So if I won the scholarship, it'd bump me to 40K/yr.jdemmitt wrote:I did, and I got a little more than that which might explain it. Wouldn't make sense to offer it if it would reduce my aid package. I was offered more than 20K, and still got the e-mail. Doesn't make much sense why you wouldn't.jdemmitt wrote:I did, and I got a little more than that which might explain it. Wouldn't make sense to offer it if it would reduce my aid package. So I guess I can't add it with my current stuff.

I just got the e-mail also. It starts off with...
"As an accepted applicant, you are invited to compete for the Donald L. Smith/Manila G. Shaver Scholarship"
Does that not imply that ever single accepted student is invited to compete for the scholarship?

I don't know if I'll have the best ties (even though I went to middle and high school in NC), or be the best writer, but damnit, I'll demonstrate some financial need!
