Oooh I may try asking if I can do this. My schedule is just not going to allow me the time to travel that far, and I'd love to be able to speak one-on-one with her.kjadkins wrote:+1, she is super nice. It definitely couldn't hurt. Or maybe see if you could even set up a phone interview of some sort?

Well, yep, basically. Haha, I'm not sure. I think the initiative might count for something?NCtoDC wrote:+1, although, what exactly would you say to her? I would call and tell them that you'd love to visit but unfortunately it's not an option for you but that you would love to schedule a phone call with a dean if at all possible. When I signed up for my visit I signed up for a meeting with dean thinking that it'd give me an opportunity to ask questions, but it ended up being more like an interview with her asking me about notable things on my application with a few minutes for questions from me at the end. If you get Dean Shealy, yours might be similar to mine.leidice wrote:Well, yep, basically. Haha, I'm not sure. I just got my admit packet in the mail, if I had gotten any scholarship, would it have been in there?

The scholarship offer came along with my admit packet...so it seems like you'd be paying sticker if you end up going to W&M. If you received a scholly from a peer school (i.e. 20-30 ranked), perhaps you could negotiate?TyrodTaylor wrote:I just got my admit packet in the mail, if I had gotten any scholarship, would it have been in there?

Re: William & Mary 2011
well im already in state. And i will be living at home with my parents, and I feel like i pretty much had to negotiate to get accepted in the first place ha! I also only applied to 3 schools, W&M being the best one. So i dont really feel like i have much negotiating room. I feel like my only play is to call and politely ask for scholarship money...

sticker isnt bad realy, 23k a year, plus i should expect to ahve a very low COL since ill be living at home. That still keeps me in under 100k debt.

Don't forget private scholarships too. I haven't had too much success in locating them, but maybe your background is different than mine.TyrodTaylor wrote:sticker isnt bad realy, 23k a year, plus i should expect to ahve a very low COL since ill be living at home. Anyone know if W & M's inviting you to apply and waiving your app. fee waiver is at all meaningful in terms of "chances"....? Or did that basically happen to everyone on here, lolzzz. Am from out of state if that changes things...

Pippa: When did you receive your invitation to apply ? Was it right after receiving an LSAT score ? Are you an URM ?

Re: William & Mary 2011
i've had this invitation and fee waiver from W&M, W&L, and T2 schools. I got waitlisted and then rejected from W&L, accepted at the T2 schools, and am still pending in W&M. so an invitation is really not that meaningful, but just reduces the cost of applying to another school.PippaBalz wrote:Anyone know if W & M's inviting you to apply and waiving your app. fee waiver is at all meaningful in terms of "chances"....? The conventional wisdom is that fee waivers do NOT necessarily indicate a higher chance of being admitted.PippaBalz wrote:Anyone know if W & M's inviting you to apply and waiving your app. fee waiver is at all meaningful in terms of "chances"....? Re: William & Mary 2011
It may depend upon why you were invited to apply. If the invitation & fee waiver were simply due to achieving a certain LSAT score, then your chances are probably not enhanced at W&M, but would be at Indiana. But if you belong to a particular racial or ethnic group, then you may get careful scrutiny or if you are completing a Teach for America stint or PeaceCorps & were invited on that basis, then your chances may be better. For example, Northwestern invited a Teach for America participant to apply & granted a fee waiver & subsequently admitted this student with a well below 25th% LSAT score. So the answer is, it may depend upon the factors prompting the fee waiver & invitation to apply.

RIght after my LSAT score was released (i.e. the same day).. so late October they said something about "your LSAT is just one factor that tells us you would succeed at our school".. which is lolz since it is not exactly an awesome score (161) but I have an interesting profile I guess... (went to Oxford for undergrad, citizen of three countries, blah blah blah) and am super poor (FAFSA number of: 0000000) but I didn't tell them that I was a URM..CanadianWolf wrote:Pippa: When did you receive your invitation to apply ? Will be withdrawing - had 45k over 3 years. Just researching how to write one of these letters so I don't come off as a douche.

Haha. Just say you respectfully decline your admission and thank you for the generous offer.
