Why not? It would likely take less than an hour. Even if you get rejected, it's only $12. Plus, if you get in, then great! If you don't, well, you weren't going to go anyway (if you didn't apply, that is). Also, are you a URM?

Still, you might as well do it. It's $12. The only reason not to is if you absolutely wouldn't go if accepted and the money were right.

did you negotiate or did they make this offer out of the blue?

I'd be interested to know too.

I just sent my negotiation email this morning. Wish me luck!

Did you ask for that? Or did they just offer?

I just declined William and Mary's offer of admission. Hopefully I opened up some spots for other candidates!

yes. Definitely kind of early to be asking that. Their second ASD isn't until March...

Yea, what?? Do you think they already over admitted or something? C'mon William & Mary, at least give me the chance to think about it. Lol

Yeah, W&M has sent me a couple of emails over the past few months about fee waivers which is really strange since I'm sub 3.0 and with a 160...makes me wonder if they're just trying to increase their non URM minority population...or if they just want to keep their selectivity rating and need people to reject. Hahaha. I threw an application their way for the above reason.

The email only asked us to notify them IF we have already chosen a different school. If you're still thinking about it, you don't meet those criteria, and you don't need to worry about it.
Personally, I appreciate the continued communication that wm gives. Certainlybetter than any of the other 11 schools I applied to.

I think they're just trying to figure out their numbers. . . .it is a good idea to figure out who is definitely not coming. . .even this early.

Same situation for me. It would be neat to get accepted to W&M, but you can't put any faith in a fee waiver. Plenty of people don't get fee waivers and get accepted, and plenty of other people are given fee waivers and denied. I'm sure that they have figured out who to give a waiver to in order to entice them to apply, and who they know will apply anyways. Sort of a way to maximize the number of applicants and the number of application fees at the same time.

I'm still trying to figure out whether it was William or Mary who thought it would be a good idea to make my status checker blank, and make me wait 3 months. Whoever it was can suck on these Chinese nuts!

Everyone got a fee waiver to W & M. It was free to apply this year. That's the only reason why I applied (and thank god I did because it's probably where I'm going!)

Hi,

I have a few questions for those who have received one of the fellowships:

1. Which fellowship did you apply for?
2. When were you notified?
3. Did the notification come with your decision or later?

I applied for a fellowship for which I would seem to be a lock, but haven't heard anything about it since my admit 3 weeks ago. :?

I believe the fellowship offers came in the acceptance packet for the people who received them.

This is true for me as well, but remember that there is a difference between the grad research fellowship, and the ones that you apply for. I don't know what anyone else has, but I was offered the GRF, which I did not apply for, and the offer came with the admit packet. The others may be different, I haven't seen any of them discussed.

I think someone mentioned one a few pages (10-15?) back that they had applied for and received. I'm not gonna dig, but I think they said they got it in the packet.

If you have any questions, I would definitely email admissions. They are very quick and nice.

I also got a fee waiver from W&M yesterday. I'm fairly certain that I have a good shot at acceptance, so I wouldn't count on the idea that they're just trying to boost their selectivity. Who knows? I find it interesting that they sent out an e-mail asking admitted students to withdraw if they were planning on doing so anyway, and then sent out a bunch of fee waivers. Maybe they had a weird cycle this year.

I went ahead and applied; I like the fact that they will negotiate scholarships.
