I agree on both points. Right now I am strongly leaning towards UIUC, especially since they are known to negotiate, and have already given me a good scholarship. W&M's low tuition gave me hope, but 15k just isn't enough to compete with the higher UIUC scholly.

I'm just glad I finally got into a school with lay prestige

Are you in-state for UIUC?

I just noticed that W&M for OOS is roughly $50k whereas UIUC for OOS is roughly $60k (these include COL). That's a pretty big difference, considering they're both state schools.

I'm OOS for both, which is why I will take my (negotiable) 25k at UIUC over my (likely non negotiable) 15k at W&M.

It reads like it's 15k per year if I keep a 2.0 average. Is that what everyone else got? This seems like a comically easy average to maintain.

Yep, mine was contingent on maintaining a C average.

I just want mine to arrive already. I'm in Virginia and everything. Why oh why does my mail come slow?

Got my acceptance letter today. Only got $12k, so I will probably end up elsewhere.

I love how ungrateful we all our about our scholarships. :D (not being sarcastic. I opened my letter, went straight to the scholarship amount, thought MEH, and put it back in my mailbox and took my dog on a walk)

I know what you mean. It's kinda weird to complain about $12,000, but I guess when comparing it to other offers, it just seems underwhelming.

I think I would have been a lot happier about the scholly if the wording wasn't so weird. I spent a couple minutes rereading it to make sure it was 15k per year instead of 15 k for just the first year.

I did appreciate that they sent acceptances priority mail. Nice to know we're worth the few extra cents.

Haha oh trust me, I read mine a half a dozen times before I convinced myself that it was $4000 and not $14000 or $40000. It sounds horrible, and I don't mean to seem so entitled or spoiled (W&M has already given me $40,000+ in free undergrad tuition), but from what I've seen on here and LSN I was just expecting more.

I just double checked to make sure mine was $15,000 not $150,000. just $15,000.

one more thing: I find it slightly deceptive that one the third page of the viewbook it says "First in the Nation I know they were the first law school, but if you didn't know that, you have to read the tiny note on the side to get what they mean by "first"

Maybe true, but if you're applying to law schools, you weren't going to be 'tricked' into thinking they were USNWR first in the nation.

Yeah. Cooley's method of ranking themselves is infinitely more despicable.

Y'all were saying your statuses went blank before you heard, right? No, NO, self, do not get your hopes up for hearing this soon. It cannot be.

Mine was blank, then Initial Review Complete appeared one day before Decision packet mailed appeared.

Cooley uses stats such as library square footage and student body size to calculate the rankings. Pretty much anything that they have in spades thanks to being an "accept everyone" school, they use.

Haha, I remember that.

Well, I guess, technically, they are first in the nation, and it's sort of a cool thing, so I suppose it's not that bad.

Yep. Honestly, I think W&M is one of the cheapest law schools in the nation (at sticker). Considering the fact that it's a top school, I think it's a pretty good deal, even if they don't give too much $$$.

Edit: Here are some of the costs of other T30 publics:
Minn - about $48k
Iowa - about $50k
IUB - about $50k
UIUC - about $54k

W&M is about $40k
