166/3.88, full scholarship letter came yesterday. Pretty exciting, although I'm an alum an not sure I want to do 3 more years in Lexington (it's really lovely though). If anyone has any questions about W&L, Lexington, housing, or how the law school fits in with the undergrad scene, I'm happy to answer.

I have a question for anyone to answer. Would you guys take W&L (very little $ at $5k/year) over Loyola at $69,000 for three years with top 30% stipulation?

My parents and sisters are pushing hard for Loyola, but I am not sure. I kind of want out of California, but would eventually want to move back. Or perhaps I would never move back. Haven't decided.

I have a lot of connections in CA, which makes it possible to come back, even if I go out of state for law school.

Just wanted to get some opinions. I know which way I am definitely leaning, but family is leaning completely the other way.

Alot to consider here . I might be a little worried about the top 30 percent requirement. To clarify they are giving you $69,000 or is that what you have to pay over three years? What is Loyola's reputation?

I have visited LA numerous times (will be back in April) and it is scary how bad I would love to live there. With that being said, 69K at Loyal beats 5K at W&L. Have you gotten offers from other schools? Can you negotiate the Loyola scholly?

I think there's decent arguments to be made for each, but I just want to point out that a top 30% stipulation is no joke at all. You should be prepared for the fact that there's a decent chance you'll lose that.

69k is what they are giving. The cost of tuition is 40K +. I calculated cost of living and projected cost to attend would be 120k versus 170k at W&L. 50k difference. A 56th ranked school versus a 34th ranked school.

Have not gotten scholarship offers from anywhere else other than Richmond. Not expecting any $ from GMU/American - they are stingy, especially according to LSAC data. So I doubt I can negotiate.

The top 30% does worry me as well. But yeah, last year my friend took Hastings at sticker over Loyola full ride. I am doing PI, which Loyola is known for.

Is it just me, or does W&L seem to emphasize gpa when it comes to $$.

Also unless some miracle happens and I get into Berk or ND accepts me and makes a $$ offer close to that of W&L (Doubt it), I will be attending W&L this fall!

3.1 and only $5k.

I thought I read last year that W&L doesn't negotiate.. anyone have any insight on that?

.

W&M was a little less, but Ill send you a PM with the details.
If the price is a big difference and you like both schools, then W&L is probably your better bet. The ranking difference isn't that big and they both have solid reputations.

After you get past the smell of the south farms U of I isn't bad at all. plus you're in the epicenter of Chicago, Indy and crap louis. If you can put up with the inordinate amount of Cardinals fans (which is crazy) you'll enjoy your time there.

I'm actually in a similar position as you (10k rather then 5k). That 69k offer is really tempting, esp since Loyola has an "ok/good" reputation in Cali.

Based on my research, it's hard to find placement in Cali after graduating from W&L. The school seems to be quite regional in job placements.

W&L is very much a "Southern" school. I doubt that many, if any, west coast firms come to OCI. That said, I would imagine the majority of the school self-selects for the Southeast or Mid-Atlantic.

The Dean said that most people choose to stay in the area or southeast. If you're interested in west coast OCI, go to the NALP directory to see which firms go to W&L. It's not a comprehensive list but should give a good idea.

Personally there are two markets I am interested in, with DC being the top.

CA is second.

Yeah, I spoke with Brett Twitty during a visit last month and he pretty much said the same thing to me.

3.7/165, 35K with 3.15 GPA stipulation. Totally did not see that one coming, I'm actually really surprised and happy!

It looks like w&l is rewarding median and lower than medium LSAT scores coupled with 75th GPAs than higher than 75th LSAT/medium GPA applicants.

Finally! 31k/year. 166/3.63.

I guess I can actually, truly consider W&L now.

Tried negotiating with no success, FWIW. Had a pretty good offer from W&M I brought up, and didn't get me anywhere. I figured it wasn't going to work after someone said they probably won't negotiate, but worth the shot.

Does anyone have an opinion on the new 3rd year program at W&L? It strikes me as a bit odd...I'm not saying that it's a bad idea, but I'm simply not sold on it.
