Thoughts on what the lowest LSAT (or lsat range) for an OOS non-urm to be accepted would be?

I think if you check out lawschoolnumbers, you'll find that this isn't the case. A big percentage of the earlier admits with the lowest numbers are URMs, and so tend to be the lower-numbered people that get scholarships.
Becca, was this a subtle jab at me?

UNC2012, I am not a URM, but I am half cuban and I believe it gave me a slight boost this cycle. I have median numbers for UNC, am OOS and got an almost full scholly. I will say I am an excellent writer and have been published through my undergrad, so I believe my essays helped, but I also think the fact that I am diverse helped as well.

It depends on your GPA playboy. DeeCee got in with a 157, but her GPA was ridiculous, she has like a 4.0 in Grad school and in undergrad. If you have around a 3.5, you probably need a 163, since that is median. UNC's medians are 3.5/163 so if you are over both you are probably in. If you are over and under you have a shot, as long as you aren't that far under one.

1) Miami doesn't belong in the ACC. Nothing like the legacy of Dwayne 'the Rock" Johnson to cement your football team's legacy from the 80's.
2) I like Tony Bennett. Classy dude, great backup for the Hornets in the early 90's.
3) As a Tar Heel, it's always nice to show the (insert profanity here) from C-ville who's boss. Seriously, UVA fans might be as annoying as Duke fans. Certainly the preppiest student body in the ACC.
I thought I liked you, Borntorun, but not a big fan of you comparing my school to Duke. At all. Unimpressed.
Aw, c'mon, I said "might!" And my (apparently incorrect) assessment of UVA is based on a very small sample. Feel free to prove me wrong! :D

I'm just curious as to the rationale for selecting the Chancellor's Scholarship interviewees/recipients. I had been told the majority of the $$ went to very high (for UNC) numbers (170+, 3.85+) or URMs.

To be honest I think me and Becca had among the lowest numbers out of the scholar finalists. Most people were already accepted to Columbia, NYU and the like, at least the people that I talked to. These were also the ones who got the full rides and the rest of us received 75%.

I have about a 3.6 and a 163. Which I know were probably the lowest numbers there (there was actually one black girl there, who I didn't even get to speak to, but I guess it's possible she had lower numbers than me, but other than that everyone else was white.) I worked full-time through undergrad in healthcare, which is kind of unusual especially b/c I am only 21 and have 7 years WE under my belt. I was also brought up in a single mother household on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, I have quite a few anecdotes which I kinda told in my PS, DS, etc. I wrote a hell of a Why UNC that tied public service into my numerous volunteer activities throughout my years. I think I really personalized my app to UNC and it helped me secure a scholly, I also applied November 1st.

I am really ready to find out about UNC. My top choice and the last of 16 schools I am waiting on.

I am a South Carolina resident that has spent the summers in NC since the age of 2. Not that it gets me anywhere.

Summers in North Carolina are hard to beat. My family always rented a place in Emerald Isle for a few weeks every summer. What I would give to sit on a beach with a couple of (buckets of) drinks for a month before law school...

Good luck, GentlemanJim.

Good luck to everyone.

I'll be drinking buckets tonight so I can stop thinking about this.

My numbers aren't outrageous but they are above UNC's medians and I received the scholarship. Though it could have been about numbers, it really does seem like everyone at the weekend had some pretty hardcore softs. I have no idea where I fell in the pile of stats, definitely not at the top but probably not at the bottom. Honestly it may have been my serious commitment and love for UNC. That sounds corny but I think that means a lot... and if I take this scholarship (which I'm leaning towards right now) that will really be a huge reason why.

So I just got into Notre Dame, do you think Notre Dame would match UNC?

Will Notre Dame give me a much better chance at NY than UNC?

Do you want me to withdraw so you can get my spot at UNC?

Seems likely, but it would be worth asking someone whose input would be more meaningful. Almost anyone posting on this forum is between 0L and 3L. As a result, no matter how well-intentioned we are, our thoughts are largely speculation.

Another point: If you're a football nut (I'm not), Notre Dame should be wonderful. If you're a basketball nut (I'm not), UNC can be pretty nice. If you absolutely could not care less (I couldn't), those features would be a drawback at either school. If you like rowing, wait a year and apply to Yale or Harvard. Someone must care about rowing - right?

Seriously, though, I would try to talk to someone with some practice under her/his belt - the more, the better (and, the more involved in some hiring decision, the better). This is certainly good news for you, and I wish you a restful, celebratory weekend. Congratulations.

Edit: Was once told rowing was referred to as "crew," but always thought that seemed strange. Checked, and it's rowing, which is good, because the alternative stinks.

Thanks man. I know a few lawyers and actually a poster on TLS is from my neighborhood and he goes to Notre Dame, so I PMed him, I'm going to wait and see what he says.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
