Re: USC 2011
i think in terms of being a sure fire way to be in the upper class, like "ooooo that kid has to be rich, because his dad's a lawyer," law is not like that anymore and may have always been overplayed.
but in terms of being better than just a bachelors and a decent standard of living, if you work hard and are good at it, i think the demise is being exaggerated.
it is definitely better to have a law degree than not to have one.
everyone in law predicts it will change over 3 years.

I was thinking of faking my own death and opening a jerk chicken stand in Negril as a back-up plan.Arbiter213 wrote:My backup plan is getting a teaching certificate in a rich suburb.masochist wrote:Don't worry. Well mine is a personal sentiment, considering where my life has been. I dug out of that hole, so everything else just seems so easy by comparison.Arbiter213 wrote:Not sure I agree with that, but I have a different outlook: I have nothing in my life, no evidence, that I will not demolish law school and be a success. Only regret is I'm not doing leveraging my GPA when it's valuable.

Fair enough- very different places in life, you and I. I've just seen enough people around me fail despite hard work and gumption that I can't believe it will just all be ok guaranteed. That + competence definitely puts you in the top 1% though, in terms of likelihood of success.r6_philly wrote:Well mine is a personal sentiment, considering where my life has been. Well maybe not so different in the way that everyone around me fail too. But I don't, at least not permanently. I always succeed, eventually. I simply don't give up.Arbiter213 wrote: Fair enough- very different places in life, you and I. ETA: I think having the attitude/confidence that I will never fail forever helps me not to fail forever.

i'm not so much worried about failing... but all the people around me who i love think law school = great life and if that doesn't happen for me, they are going to be very disappointed. i'm worried that i'll let them down.

You are only accountable to yourself (and your family, no not your parents, spouse and kids) in the end. Do things so you can be happy with your life regardless.glitter178 wrote: i'm not so much worried about failing... but all the people around me who i love think law school = great life and if that doesn't happen for me, they are going to be very disappointed. i'm worried that i'll let them down.

No offense but lets put the whining in a different thread. This is about USC applications.

10/7--> 11/18 --> 12/14 --> 1/3.
Hopefully more decisions start being made this week? I applaud the patience of those who have been sitting at DF since 12/8. If I knew my decision had been made almost a month ago but I hadn't heard yet, I would have gone crazy by now.

Lol I am just going to mentally trash the notion in my head that I had an outside shot at getting into this school.

Yes, yes they are. I am above both 75ths. I've loved USC ever since I visited in high school. I applied to USC undergrad twice and was rejected both times, so I would be really ecstatic about an acceptance. I'm hoping the third time's the charm. Fingers crossed for good news for everyone this week!JJDancer wrote:leopard, are those FOUR in review date changes??

Complete since 11/11. I'm getting impatient. I should at least be under review by now? -_-

Yep, decision finalized 1/3 as well.
Does anyone know when they send out scholarship information? Is it with acceptance letter or does it come later?

Basically zero people have gotten their letter yet so we have no clue. I think later (this is a vague guess).duckmoney wrote:Yep, decision finalized 1/3 as well.

Submitted around 11/2, but didn't go complete until 12/12 because I forgot they could see I was signed up for an LSAT retake.
Very quick turnaround in that case, especially given the holidays.
How does USC typically inform applicants of the decisions?
