Just called and they said some decisions were mailed yesterday!!

I guess that answers the question about the Mailings section - I've been DF for nearly a month, and nothing has changed about the status checker (assuming I'm one of the decisions already mailed)

My stats are pretty median all the way through, but i was DF since 12/8. Is anyone DF and below medians? I'm worried because theres people in this thread who are auto admits who have are still under review, so I'm wondering if DF means already means acceptance or just they got to your app first but it could be a ding.

As far as the "some decisions" thing, I am choosing to believe he meant some decisions as in some of the applicant pool as a whole has been decided on and their decisions are in the mail, not some of the decisions we've been made are in the mail. I guess we will see soon if my theory is correct.

My status checker updated...UR 1/1/2011.

Wow, USC is working extremely hard. I mean...it's New Year's day. I suspect they are going towards the whole holistic thing and will be giving each app an extremely thorough review. The only explanation that I can think of.

Anyone else have to submit a dean's letter? I applied late(r), for reasons beyond my control (applied 12/30, got a status checker/confirmation email 1/2). Dean's letters, like everywhere, take forever to process, and my dean emailed me on 12/21 confirming what she would be reporting, and that it would be sent. The admissions office told me that my file is incomplete because the letter had not been received. But what I think, and hope, is that this is just a case of machine being faster than man, in that the emails from USC are (obviously) just form letters that get sent when the application is received electronically, whereas the snail-mail letter takes an actual human to process. Couple that with the fact that the letter was coming from the east coast, and there was Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve (albeit not official holidays like the days they precede) before them (not to mention the fact that they were probably on break or something?)

I'm actually much less nervous now, since it looks like USC hasn't given out as many decisions yet as my other schools, but I just thought I'd check and see if anyone else either sent out their dean's letter a couple weeks first, or waited a while for it to show up.

Yep. Small envelope, 1 sheet of paper. I don't remember the ir date but submitted 10/7, complete 10/8.
