Re: Harvard 2011 Applicants
This is probably a really dumb question...but are we expected to respond to the email to confirm our time? Or do we only respond "if the number won't work or if the time is completely unworkable," and otherwise wait for our window?

Did you also receive a JR1 email? If so, congrats, and when did it come?zizek wrote:This is probably a really dumb question...but are we expected to respond to the email to confirm our time? Re: Harvard 2011 Applicants
I submitted 9/15 and got an email saying my application was received a few days later.
I believe I went complete 10/6 (didn't get an email) and got the JR1 email on 10/8 as well!

Submitted: 10/2
Received: 10/4
Complete & Under Review: 10/7
JR1 Email: 10/14
JR1: 10/19 -- oof, fairly certain I used the word 'awesome.' How eloquent! ><
JR2: ??
Pretty basic questions for the JR1 -- the usual suspects, slightly tailored to my resume. 5 min was it! I had a few pretty meandering answers in hindsight, despite a bit of prep, but no awkward pauses, so... win? I hope... Was told decisions should come in late Nov (like most years).

Gunners! I am not complete either. Look like we missed the first wave. I am happy with the additional changes I made to my application though. And still early - until the Oct. score comes out.tkgrrett wrote:ehh.. app received 10/5 and still not even complete.. all you early applicants are gunking up the harvard pipes.

Re: Harvard 2011 Applicants
Just got off the phone about five minutes ago. Interview was short, less than 10 minutes. There's really nothing to worry about. I know it's hard to believe that but I haven't had a less stressful interview. JR is super nice, doesn't throw any curveballs, and is willing to let you talk about your interests as you see fit (questions are still: what are you interested in? why HLS?). Relax and come off as a normal person and you'll be fine.

Re: Harvard 2011 Applicants
Just had my interview. Lasted just under 7 minutes. I think it went really well. I'll second zizek's comment about JR's courteousness. He was more than willing to give detailed answers to the questions I asked him towards the end of the interview. He said the first round of decisions will likely come in mid-to-late November, which probably means just before Thanksgiving.
edit: adding the number to my contacts list as "In at Harvard!"
Edit 2: JR2 on 11/22

Re: Harvard 2011 Applicants
Just got off the phone for my interview. It lasted about 7 minutes; he asked two questions, let me ask two questions, then got off the phone pretty abruptly after telling me what the next steps were -- hope that doesn't mean he didn't like what I was saying!

Just finished mine as well.. About 7 minutes, same questions and I would like to think that it was short and sweet.

Re: Harvard 2011 Applicants
For me, the interviewee, the next step is sit and wait until late November (when the first round of decisions come out). And continually second-guess the answers I gave for his two questions lol.
What're the next steps?
They'll be doing another round of review on applications in that time.

No problem.
I'm not exactly sure, but I'm thinking he meant that they haven't made final decisions on the interviewed people, and they will be looking at those applications again with whatever new information was gleaned from interviews.

Re: Harvard 2011 Applicants
It varies. Sometimes JR tags an app early on thats gotten some preliminary screening (maybe general sorting? I'm guessing) and interviews the applicant. The app then goes to the 'board of adcomms' lol or whatnot who look at it (possibly twice, i cant remember what he told me last yr). Other times your app will have already been looked at (read: mostly decided on haha) and then he'll interview you and send it to them AGAIN to review. Something along those lines.
Point is, your app gets looked at multiple times by multiple people, and JR can interview you early on in that process or later on, though I am assuming it is always after some sort of preliminary screening (i.e. an app he finds 'interesting' w/ decent numbers or probable in's...etc.)
