For some reason, I felt compelled to read the JR1, no JR2 thread the night before my JR1. I think the general consensus was that URMs and those with a low GPA were more likely to get held.rv11 wrote:Does anyone remember the people who didn't get JR2s after pre-Thanksgiving JR1 and if they had a particular reason to attribute this to?

Yep.. URM admission to Harvard was a holdfest last cycle.. Hopefully I escape that fate. I would really rather not be waiting until April for a decision.sarahhope82 wrote:For some reason, I felt compelled to read the JR1, no JR2 thread the night before my JR1. Start practicing in the mirror for your JR1 right now.. mines has begun replaying in my head and I swear I didnt directly answer one of the questions he asked at all(it was a non-standard question and caught me off guard)Knockglock wrote:Yeah I ended up retaking and cancelling. Haha, you think i'll get one? I've been mentally preparing to not get one. Any tips for the JR1?tkgrrett wrote:Start practicing in the mirror for your JR1 right now.. mines has begun replaying in my head and I swear I didnt directly answer one of the questions he asked at all(it was a non-standard question and caught me off guard)Knockglock wrote:Yeah I ended up retaking and cancelling. just to chime in, i was a pre-thanksgiving JR1 last cycle (had my JR1 about a week before the first round of JR2s), and ended up held in january and waitlisted in april. seven really fun months. #s were 3.79 ivy/179tkgrrett wrote:Yep.. i'm the exception rather than the rule though. just about all the pre-thanksgiving JR1s got in by the end of the cycle

Is this representative of the number of JR1s that are going out? Have they slowed down and have not been doing many? Or are very few people posting that they got one?
i would wager there may have been more at the beginning because of the wave of submissions just at the beginning of the cycle (within the first 24 hours or so), and it may slow down a bit before the october LSAT wave hits...
OR
maybe those people who apply just as applications begin being accepted are more likely to post on TLS and further are more likely to post if they got an JR1... (most of these people may have been in the first wave)
just a couple ideas!

Have there been any non-URM JR1s where the applicant has one number below Harvard's 2010 medians (3.89/173)?

mostly GPA right?acrossthelake wrote:Yes. 4/15 of the JR1s in my data tabulation fit those criteria. The Real Jack McCoy wrote:Have there been any non-URM JR1s where the applicant has one number below Harvard's 2010 medians (3.89/173)?
I think early JR1 invitees appear to have wonderful numbers, so some of us with no so wonderful numbers would probably not have a chance until later on.

Re: Harvard 2011 Applicants
It's ok. I am pretty prepared. My GPA is barely above median so I don't expect much. Even if I would somehow get one, it wouldn't be so quick. People with much better numbers are being assessed for reasons not to be invited, then it would be us who need to show reason to be invited? (Just to simply it extremely).Knockglock wrote:Sorry. I think some of the 170/3.9+ people got invitations several weeks after completion and not until mid Nov. Maybe they don't really look at us seriously until they get a better sense of the upper two thirds of the pool.

Re: Harvard 2011 Applicants
Guys, the sky is not falling! I applied last cycle as a non-URM with numbers below both medians. I submitted my application late (after the December LSAT), was held in February, waitlisted in April, and admitted in May. (!!!)
Bottom line: If your numbers aren't there, you'll probably have a slow start to your cycle. But there is movement later in the cycle/off the waitlist, and room for those of us with less-than-stellar numbers who still clearly have something to offer the HLS community. Josh seems like he genuinely cares about making HLS an interesting place.
Also, FWIW, at least 3 people in my section were admitted off the waitlist.

Justbluemyself: You really are a beacon of hope for us all XD.
Though of course, I doubt many of us have a Fulbright on our resumes.

Re: Harvard 2011 Applicants
Hey all, just sent in my app for this godforsaken place.
LSAT coming in Friday, so you can either chalk it up to extreme confidence or stupidity. (I say the latter.)
GPA is, frankly, low, but I have strong softs and mitigating factors, so I probably would have regretted not trying anyway.

Re: Harvard 2011 Applicants
Just had JR-1, to reiterate what everyone's been saying- very chill very easy questions to answer. Hopefully I did alright and did not come off too nervous. He seems like a great guy.
Now the waiting game...
