Re: Penn ED Waiting Thread
Actually that's what in-towners call Penn too. Because whenever I say Penn, people presume Penn State. So I have to say "No, UPenn". That's probably why they chose upenn.edu anyway.kk19131 wrote:...because that's what out-of-towners call Penn.r6_philly wrote:Why?kk19131 wrote:I sure hope you didn't write "UPenn" in any of your essays.loptimist wrote: thank you, i did ED to UPenn!

Really. I always thought, and got from people I interacted, "Penn" is how people refer to UPenn, and they call Penn State as it is.r6_philly wrote:Actually that's what in-towners call Penn too. ...Exactly. Only those in the know... know. I don't know too many people who randomly assume Penn State when I say Penn. But, I'm from Philly, so hey...
Also, the school rarely, if ever refers to itself as "UPenn": one of the few mentions of it seems to be the url (and of course Penn.edu is owned by the school as well)...

Re: Penn ED Waiting Thread
So I thought too, but I am surprised at how many locals (outside of Phila. county) can't differentiate between Penn and Penn State. I had to start saying UPenn, seriously. Maybe they didn't think I was worthy of Penn so just assume that I meant Penn state? I also came across a few who didn't know Penn is an Ivy. But I am from a working class background so your mileage will definitely vary.tbldc2009 wrote: Really. I submitted RD. I was lurking here due to the lack of a RD thread. Cost is a big concern so I wanted to be able to compare financial aid offers.

Penn is more commonly used but UPenn is also officially recognized. Chill.

I seem to hear that quite a bit at school, but then of course most of my classmates are from out of town. Now you got me confused...kk19131 wrote: ...Exactly. Only those in the know... know. I don't know too many people who randomly assume Penn State when I say Penn. But, I'm from Philly, so hey...

You should start one. I am sure there are many TLSers who are applying to Penn (I am not included though).

Saw on another thread - Princeton Review just came out with their categorized law school rankings for 2011.
Under the "Best Career Prospects" ranking, Penn's #1!

Saw that too. But then I did a quick search on those rankings and the general consensus is they are a bunch of bullshit. But I have a feeling that "Best Career Prospects" might be the only category to carry weight for them as it is not completely subjective, like QOL or the other categories they have.absolutazn87 wrote:Saw on another thread - Princeton Review just came out with their categorized law school rankings for 2011.

Yeah the PR reviews are usually pretty BS. But still nice to see Penn at #1 haha...Mike12188 wrote:Saw that too. And yeah, I feel like the Best Career Prospects ranking has more actual data behind it than the other categories like best professors or most competitive students.

PROTIP:
Yale has the best job prospects.
That being said, Penn's certainly aren't bad if you insist on going into this festering TTT we call the legal market. One of the major advantages of going to such a small and tightknit school is that you have the opportunity to conduct a very personal job search. I mean hell, even the head of the law library offered to hook me up with some connections in my secondary/tertiary home market.

Add me to the list. I know I only have an outside shot, but an outside shot is still a shot.

Re: Penn ED Waiting Thread
Well you def. don't have to worry about a rejection just a waitlist. There was a 167 3.85 and 167 3.95 accepted last year both RD. Maybe your ED will give you that 1 point bump. Good luck!HeavenWood wrote:Add me to the list. I know I only have an outside shot, but an outside shot is still a shot.
Also, anyone know if it is true that they only accepted 15 ED applicant last year? (Read it on another thread) There are 11 ED acceptances on LSN.
EDIT: Your name/tar is great. HeavenWood 3 is my savior on the course. There is a good possibility that I hit it off the tee box more than my driver lol (I'm not good though low to mid 90s player )

That seems fishy to me. Link?Mike12188 wrote:Well you def. don't have to worry about a rejection just a waitlist. There was a 167 3.85 and 167 3.95 accepted last year both RD. EDIT: Yeah, my friends are urging me to buy new hybrids, but my 3 and 4 work so well for me. Why waste the money? I'm usually a mid to upper eighties player. I shot 92 at Mystic Rock today, but I'm not too upset, given how tough (and beautiful) the course is.

"At the info session I went to in February, they told us that they accepted about 15 ED applicants that year. 15/250 = 6% = approximately the normal acceptance rate."
But I just realized that it is last years thread and they are talking about the prior year. So I'm sure there were more last year if there are 11 on LSN
