Even though I'm still UR, can I send a scholarship form? Or is just for admitted students? Ahhhh

Admitted only since you can only get the form sent to you after admission or get it from the admitted student site.

Still UR 1/31. REALLY wondering why they're keeping me on ice for so long. The optimistic part of me says that there must be some reason they haven't axed me yet. But then I remember that this is law school admissions we're talking about, and there's really no inherent logic to anything that happens.

Curious about this as well.

The rule isn't really a rule as much as a theory. One that doesn't appear to be holding for ANY of the 3/2 UR update group as I haven't seen/heard a peep from Duke nor anyone else in that group.

Apparently this 3/2 group has a lot of high LSATs scores but lower GPAs?

54K over three years. At first it seemed exciting, and then I realized I would still be a 150k in debt. No contingencies though.

Put it into an excel sheet and figure out the differences between 150k and 200k. It's illuminating and shocking (i.e., IF you can afford about 2200 a month, I think you're done paying back 150k something like 5 years earlier. Ok, just did it. If you pay 2200 per month and never raise it, you're done with 150k (assuming 8% interest) after 7 yrs and 7 mnths. If 200 k, 11 yrs and 7 months. Of course, the cynic would say, if you can afford 150, you can afford 200. If you can't afford 200, you can't afford 150, etc. But still, them's the numbers).

Edit: for those counting, the difference in payback for those four years is $105 k of AFTER-tax money (not counting interest you could have earned investing it... 54k is a lot of scholarship money if you look at it the right way).

No problem. Kudos for trying to make some sense of this review date. So I guess the original theory holds that this group has a large share of high gpa-ers and scattered amount of splitters?

Just to tag this thread and add another data point for those considering the significance of the 3/2 update: I had a 176/3.56, submitted 11/11/10. Expecting WL, especially since I did not write a Why Duke.

Anyone here with similar dates? Submitted 1/7 -- complete 1/24 -- UR 2/21.

Ima splitter - very low GPA, somewhat high LSAT.

Still UR 1/18. Splitter. Would be nice to see some movement, though I'm afraid the best I can expect is probably WL at this point...

Not really sure what to expect from this update, I'm hoping at least some acceptances.

For those that didn't know UVA just upped most of their scholarship offers by $10k+/yr which will likely have a slight effect on Duke's actual yield (not sure if they'll make any adjustments to their projected) and may lead to a few people that have been accepted going ahead and withdrawing/depositing at UVA. Normally I'd say something like this probably isn't very relevant but Duke's small class size + close proximity to UVA geographically and in the rankings + a fairly significant bump in scholarship $$ at UVA = some net effect on Duke's yield i'd imagine.

Also for what it's worth when I was there recently they were telling me how their target class size used to be 220. Last year they overenrolled by 20+ people and had 24x people, this year apparently they are not only trying to avoid over-enrolling but are reducing the target class size to 200 people, that likely bodes well for anyone that got PR as I'd expect to see more conservative use of accept vs. PR.

Basically I'm just rambling because I want Duke (it fits my interests perfectly) and need something to do during the wait since the 3/2 UR update.

Smaller class = less competition for jerbs. Also, larger scholarships (particularly with a competitor offering more money)?

No idea about the scholarships but I agree about the jobs.

Overall the more I consider the different law schools the more I'm attracted to the schools with smaller classes. More professor interaction, smaller 1L classes etc. Duke also really impressed me because it seemed like they had the small class size without limiting resources by scaling them down along with the class size. I didn't get a chance to see much of career services but I'd imagine that the smaller class size helps offer more interaction with them.

Yeah, I'm the same way. I think it creates a much more tightly-knit environment, and it establishes the scarcity of your degree (which helps when firms are trying to diversify, or when your graduates are competing for the same markets). Definitely a plus in my eyes (though it's not for everyone), and a big reason why I chose Duke over its peers.

Anyway, best of luck with Duke. Hopefully you get a response within the next few days.
