I'm 6'6. I can't think of any downside to me living in a place like this.

Lolll, I've already made some roommate enquiries and I'm very thankful to be hearing back from people! I'm very excited to move into the city.

Man, what the hell makes people so anti-outer boroughs that they'd actually live somewhere like that?

You can totally find a nice space for that price in great neighborhoods in Brooklyn and Queens. I have roommates, but I'm paying just a little more than that woman for a huge apartment, a private backyard and a garage. Outer boroughs is where it's at!

because Queens =/= New York City

Something kinda cool from my US history class:
In the late 19th Cent Brooklyn and New York were separate cities. Both were part of the top 5 largest cities in the US at the time.

I don't know, I guess it comes down to personal preference, but having lived in the UES, East Village, Brooklyn and Queens, I think QOL is much higher outside of Manhattan. I lived in Long Island City in Queens for awhile, which is probably about 25 min to Fordham, and it was pretty awesome.

For real. I can honestly say I'd stay in my neighborhood even if I did have the extra cash to burn on Manhattan rent.

Okay, I'll get off my soapbox now. :)

But then why New York at all if you aren't in Manhattan? Seems like it'd make more sense to just go somewhere else cheaper.

That's insane! You'd have to pay me to live in a place that small. I know I'm not going to get a huge apartment in NYC, but that's just wayyy too small.

At least when most non-NYers think of NY and the whole fantasy of moving there, they think of Manhattan. Everything else (at least in my perceptions) just seems like overpriced slums (hyperbole, don't get too excited over this, I know there are very nice areas outside of Manhattan). But the point is, if you aren't going to actually live in the heart of things, why not just live somewhere like Boston and save some $$$?

Best neighborhood in NY is considered to be Park Slope. Which is in Brooklyn.

Um, yeah, and why go to law school if you can't go to HYS? Seems like it'd make more sense to just go do something else cheaper.

I think the credited response is because New York City is not made up of Manhattan alone and you are showing how un-New York you are by suggesting otherwise. Also, many of us like living here and being close to Manhattan and able to access it by subway even we choose to not live in the city.

For what? Families? I wouldn't live there for so many reasons. Where you live is a highly personal decision that should be based on a number of factors. Park Slope is as expensive as Manhattan, but tends to be for middle aged people, is a somewhat long ride into Manhattan, etc. etc. I wouldn't recommend it for a Fordham student.

I know I don't. I'm only sharing my own, and what I believe to be the non-NYer, bias against outer-boroughs. I've never really been to the outer boroughs for more than 5 mins, so I don't have a clue. This is just the perception.

I suppose it depends where you live in relation to public transportation. At night, the only reasonably priced safe option was to take the Express Bus (because the bus stops to my place from the train stops were kind of sketch... and the walk was a sketchy half mile... and the cab companies around there don't operate at all hours). The last Express bus back to the Bronx leaves 23rd & Park at 12:15am. So... I found I was often crashing with friends if we were out even a little bit late. They never complained or objected, but I would have preferred sleeping in my own bed.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
