They don't always email first.

I got my acceptance by phone call, then email. :)

Well, it is somebody different running the show this year, so things might be a little different this time around.

I would have been a prime YP candidate for Wisconsin (3.8, 173, without specific ties to the area). However, I received an admittance call just a couple of weeks after applying. I have genuine interest in going to UW and with a little financial incentive, could easily see myself in Madison this fall. However, I did not submit anything in my application that stated a particular interest in UW, Madison or the state of Wisconsin.

I think "YP" is so overblown on TLS. I know of many people who got accepted into T14 schools, including S, with great numbers, who were also accepted to Wisconsin very early (they applied to be safe). Do not not assume you are in a "YP" or "borderline" category because you have no idea why your application was viewed unfavorably. This really isn't just a numbers game. If you plan to write a LOCI, I recommend you express your interest in UW and also highlight or update aspects of your application that the admissions office may have not accounted for.

Or maybe my anecdotal evidence means nothing and UW does send out these emails, but I really doubt it.

YP isn't just for people with really high scores. There could be other reasons that they don't think you'll come.

If you don't view a waitlisted applicant as either YP or borderline, what else can you view them as?

too many 161's with a 3.6X who were on their college's mediocre sports team.

Waitlisted as well via email. 163/3.0. I think they take "the likelihood that you will enroll if admitted" very seriously. It's difficult for me to write that letter/email this early in my cycle (still waiting on 5-6 schools that I would really want to go to)...any others?

Does anyone know if it is better to send a LOCI as an actual letter or is email acceptable?

I'm getting really worried that I still haven't heard back from Wisconsin. 161/3.61... and I applied on 11/29. Any thoughts?

um sorry to burst your bubble but you were definitely not YP...you are borderline...3.0 is weak.

Wow, no reason to attack the dude. He was not implying YP, but rather that through his personal statement he may not have exhibited his desire to attend, coupled with the lack of supplemental essays, and/or no ties to the area.

Thanks. I'm actually a she though, not a he. :) And yes, was not implying YP. I do have nearly 5 years WE in D.C. for global security think tanks, international research and WE. I will write the LOCI - they do have an interesting Global Legal Studies program and I have family in Madison and Milwaukee (East Coast transplant, Iowa native).

Sorry about the gender mishap  . Good luck with the LOCI, hopefully it works out for you. Never been to Madison or even Wisconsin for that matter, but I definitely am considering my acceptance since I love other parts of the Upper Midwest I've visited (now I just want to hear something about scholarships). In your LOCI you should bring up your WE and show how it relates to a field that UW is strong in (which you prob already expressed to them in your PS, but just elaborate even more)...best of luck

I feel ya. I applied 11/15, went complete 12/2 and have been under review since 12/3. Our numbers are pretty much the same as well.
