Statistically, yes, but it's not random... if I study harder than a good majority of my peers, I won't have a 60% chance of losing my scholarship. I mean, maybe I'm just underestimating how hard it is to put in the extra effort, but I don't foresee myself letting anything get ahead of my studying if I know it's the difference between a $24,000 scholarship and having to quit law school because I can't afford it.

Just got my ASW invitation email and it turns out I'll have already started spring semester :( but I'm thinking about asking my profs that Friday for the day off, I'd really like to go.

Wondering, how long after you submitted did you receive any notification from them?

I just submitted my app today.

For what its worth, last year they removed both the grade requirement and then later gave me the cost of books in addition to full tuition. They really are very nice people who will try and accomodate you.

I submitted on 11/30, got a phone call saying my app was complete on 12/6, got an email with checker log-in on 12/7, got accepted via phone call yesterday

Don't bother with the status checker, it's worthless. Mine still says my application is incomplete.

Of course you can work harder, but the problem is when everyone has to be in the top 40% to keep their money, why wouldn't they work hard too? And what makes you think that you are working harder than all of them or that by working harder you will get better grades? Maybe I am being a little paranoid but we're talking about potentially losing out on tens of thousands of dollars.

On another note, I've looked at about every person on LSN who was accepted with money last year from Alabama and many of them who held out until the spring got increases in the amount and/or had requirements removed. And the above poster confirms this. I'm not trying to scare anyone about the scholarship requirement. Its just that many schools are infamous for giving everyone scholarships, but after the first year a majority have lost them due to grade requirements. I'm not accusing Alabama of doing this, I'm just being cautious.

Who knows, maybe I'm being overly optimistic. I guess to be safe if I end up choosing Alabama (and I'm definitely not choosing until basically the last minute... I wanna weight all my options as best I can) I should probably try to negotiate my way out of the grade requirement. As nice as they've been up to this point, it can't hurt to ask.

Got the t-shirt at my home address, and received my scholarship information this morning (yep - on a Sunday - weird!)

Also I think the only status checker was via myBama and was the most useless thing in the world (i.e. didn't actually have a status?) but someone feel free to correct.

Just submitted my application (I decided last second that Alabama was a school I may enjoy attending, should have applied sooner).

Hopefully I'm not too late to get a nice scholarship like the other folks in this thread.

Obviously I applied for the law school and not the itunes, but how do I nab those itunes now? haha

Should I assume I've been Waitlisted/Dinged if I went complete on 11/9 and still haven't heard anything from them yet?

in the law school admissions process, never make assumptions.

IN,

Also a $24,000/ year scholarship.
But I have to maintain above a 2.5? Is that the top 40% you guys were talking about.

Does any one know whether of not you get in-state tuition after the first year?

This is a great option for me because I would also like to work in the south.

It seems that some people got a gpa requirement (my full tuition scholly included) and some were specifically told as long as they remain in a percentage (40%).

Seems the gpa requirement is a little easier than top 40.

Congrats

On Alabama's website it says that to get in-state tuition you have to prove that you're in Alabama for a primary purpose other than attending school (or something to that effect). So it's basically impossible to qualify for in-state tuition if you aren't already an Alabama resident. Also, got my admit packet today (I also have a $24,000/year scholarship) and the scholarship letter say that if you ever do end up qualifying for in-state tuition the scholarship is decreased to $15,000.

I'm an undergrad at Alabama, and it's true - it's near impossible to get in-state tuition. I work in the financial aid department and most applications for in-state, I'd say around 90%, get turned down. Not to be a downer or anything, just thought you guys might like to know.

I'm also an undergrad at Alabama, and I have also heard that it is very difficult to get residency. This would probably be helpful:

Jut to throw my two cents in: students at the law school report no trouble getting in state. Especially those who worked in Bama during the summer.
