*Rushes to open status checker.*

Still under review (but not surprised. I'm too close to median to earn a call from Dean Tom. Here's hoping for good news post-committee review!)

I think they try to call them update the checker. My checker didn't update for more than 24 hours.

Dont discount your chances. Berkeley is legit when they say they are holistic. I got a call from Dean Tom on day 1 with a 3.88 and 170/165/162

Officially under review for a month today. Hopefully they give calls and I can get one :)

I know they're holistic, but LSAT is still 1/3 of the equation (I'm just below last year's median). Obviously, Dean Tom will let in people with higher numbers first. I think I have a fair chance at acceptance, but I also think my LSAT is too low to be accepted along with you guys.

Congrats to everyone who has gotten in thus far!

Just out of curiosity, if I've been under review since late October (171, 3.99) but haven't heard back yet, is it likely I'm probably headed for committee review?

Thanks!

I don't think that's necessarily the case. We've only had 3-4 days of notifications so it's still quite early. We don't really know how the dean review process works, maybe apps that don't get in on the first review will get reviewed again for 2nd or 3rd opinions before handing off to committee review. I don't think the committee review starts for some time, so I think you still have a great chance of hearing back soon.

Agreed. We really don't know all that much. But you have excellent numbers, and so you have a strong shot. But Berkeley definitely is one of the more holistic schools, so they want more than just numbers.

Best of luck to everyone waiting, i'm rooting for all of you .

Just noticed something.. UC-Berkley(the supposed most holistic school) is the only T-20 law school whose dean graduated from Harvard(one of the supposed least holistic school).

I didn't know they were considered the MOST holistic....interesting. I think they're only holistic past a certain GPA, but it makes sense. Accepting someone who has a low GPA into the same class that includes a majority of near 4.0's is probably not the best idea. That person would most likely be in the bottom 10% of their class the whole time, which would completely suck for them.

Not necessarily. I was a splitter when applying for UG (2180/3.2), and my UGPA is a 3.94. Sometimes people turn their work ethics around.

Definitely, same here. My undergrad GPA was decently higher than my high school GPA, although not as significant as 3.2 to 3.94.

I had a 3.7 the first stint and 4.0 the second. I can't believe how I got 3 B's out of 10 classes I took. Sometimes you grow up, mature, and learn. Although TBF most people had 4 years as adults to learn this. So maybe there is something to be said about "upward trend" if it is a dramatic improvement, not just a "trend".

Well, they aren't paying any attention to your high school grades, right? Unless you bring it up, I guess. I have just rarely seen anyone under a 3. get into Boalt, and I'm sure there are some amazing people out there with under 3., that would do great. But if I was in the top 20 and was worried about maintaining it, I probably wouldn't take too many chances on those folks, so I can see why the may not.

I just had the overwhelming feeling my GPA's sending me off to committee review, best case scenario...

I think it's the sun interfering. If you went to school in the NE ...

Most people don't learn. So most people don't go to T14.

Good point. It's just weird because I feel like i'm in such a different place than when I started college, and I don't relate to my friends as much.

You and me both, buddy. Let's see if they're "holistic" enough to let in sub-3.6's.

I think we all grew at different pace and to different points and that's natural. My life has taken on a completely different path than most people I have ever been friends with. I remain friends with a lot of them but I doubt they can relate to me. I don't think, actually I know, that no one in my past would have believed that I could even finish college let alone get into a top law school. Hehe I wouldn't believe it either 2 years ago.
