FeelTheHeat wrote:Genuinely happy to see that FSU is now officially a T1 school. It would seem that the disparity between them and UF is next to nothing more than undergrad rep, and further reinforces my belief that the main deciding factor between the two schools is lifestyle and how much someone enjoys one over the other. Regardless, the two schools are unequivocally the top dogs in Florida and attending either is something to be proud of. I'm visiting Gainesville in about 2 weeks, and unless it totally blows me away I'll be taking the $$$ and running.

I have a feeling FSU is going to continue to fluctuate between where they are over the next few years, rising one or two sports because of all the money they are giving out, maybe dropping a few. Either way, it seems to have definitely solidified itself as a school that (I hope) will give decent job opportunities ITE throughout the state.

I've noticed the main thing holding back FSU is the peer assessment rankings, unfortunately. Hopefully they (we?) find a way to improve that in the coming years.
Definitely glad to see us moving up again. All in all, the USNews rankings are garbage. The equation is easy to game. Some of the factors that carry more weight are easy to fudge, and a lot of schools do it. Also, some things that are very important don't carry enough weight, such as faculty reputation / production. FSU's faculty is extremely respected w/in academia, and regularly ranks in the top 25.

I don't know how much the acquisition of the 1st DCA has been factored into our numbers as of now, but when it's operational that should be a big boost. We dropped a large chunk of money on it, and once it's renovated our facility size will nearly double, not to mention the fact it looks completely awesome.

The peer assessment rankings are killing us. It's basically how schools rank one another, and if I'm not mistaken some practitioners are asked to submit rankings too. No conflict of interest there whatsoever, of course. Basically, I think we struggle because FSU is a young school in comparison to others, and it takes time to build a reputation.

That being said, despite the fact rankings matter a great deal to prospective students and are the subject of much fodder on message boards, it's really the farthest thing from your mind once you get to school and I'd bet that most firms couldn't tell you who is ranked #42 if you gave them five guesses. FSU is and will always be a regional school. Being #50 or #40 won't change the fact that hard work and networking will lead to a good job.
Still, hearing that we are a top tier school for the first time has been a source of great pride the past week, and all of you that decide to attend FSU Law are making a fantastic choice.

A buddy of mine got the acceptance phone call today. So there must have been a batch that got accepted today. He only went complete last week and is just below 160 LSAT with about a 3.8 GPA.

I am, but the Irish are really good this year. I'm a Big East fan by default, so it's going to be quite a change cheering for an ACC school. At any rate, GO NOLES!

Hey all! I'll be in attendance this Friday. Can't wait to meet all of you after having read and followed these forums for the better portion of my waking hours. Go Noles!

Quick question people

I have been complete since 1/14 and I haven't heard anything With the April 1st deposit deadline approaching should I assume that I am going to get rejected?

Thanks

Those admitted later in the cycle will have a different deposit deadline. So if you're admitted, you won't have anything to worry about!

Maybe it's different for me because I was only accepted a couple of weeks ago. My checklist says first seat deposit is due the 15th.

I've been complete since 9/22 and I'm still waiting/praying. As more time passes chances seem slimmer... but I just keep telling myself there must be something in my application that's still keeping me alive. For the moment, anyway.. :?

Six, you and I are similar stats. It'll come. Don't worry and then Florida after that or shortly before.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
