Re: Pittsburgh 2011
Can any current students please clarify Pitt's grading policy for me? The "ranking and grade value" page states that students fall into "bands," and then goes on to list the cutoffs for each. It also states that only this specified band or numerical GPA should be reported on resumes, job applications, etc. However, on the "Academic Standards" page, it is then stated that:
"In computing grade averages, the following numerical equivalents will be used: A+ = 4.00; A = 4.00, A- = 3.75; B+ = 3.25; B = 3.00; B- = 2.75; C+ = 2.25; C = 2.00; C- = 1.75; D = 1.00; F = 0. For purposes of any average (yearly or cumulative), the required average must be fully attained rather than approximated. For example, to attain a C average, a student must have a numerical grade average of at least 2.000 (the full, integral value of C on the numerical equivalent scale). A numerical grade average of 1.999, then, would not constitute a C average."
Does this mean that someone with say a 3.55 then falls into the A- reportable "band range" for job application purposes, but will be only be considered carrying a B+ cumulative average since the full 3.75 value wasn't attained?
Thanks in advance for any help.

No.
When you get an A- as a GRADE you're awarded 3.75 points per credit.
When you have a cum above 3.5 (and below a 3.876) you have an A- average.

Burkoff for criminal
Flechtner for contracts
Chew for torts
Taylor for legislation & regulation (the new class)
Teeter for analysis & writing (different for others in C, of course)
Any current Pitt students care to elaborate on these profs? Flechtner, Taylor, and Burkoff seem to be ratemyprofessor.com rockstars.
Also, if you've taken a class with them, can you give us a heads up on what to expect? ...and what supplements were useful? Thanks a bundle, I appreciate it.
Flechtner and Burkoff as good as it gets! Both are excellent teachers, great scholars, fun guys and just all around class acts.
I don't know the others.
Flechtner's contracts = the key is the practice tests. He'll probably have at least 10 on reserve in the library. Near the end of the semester, get them, photocopy them and take them all!
Burfkoff...I had him from Crim pro, not crim law. For crim pro, I did all the reading, wrote down EVERYTHING he said, bullet pointed it into an outline and did quite well.

Does anyone know what gyms are good in the Shadyside area? Prices? I lift every day and would like to know what places (if any) give student discounts and what are affordable options. Also, my gf would like to join too but she is not a student...

I'm pretty sure that the school gym is free (or at least paid by your tuition) and it probably has pretty good facilities and equipment. I looked it up on the pitt website but they only had pictures of the pool but not the actual weight area though so I'm not 100% sure

A 7 digit code issued to you by the university. It's the most frequently used method of identity confirmation (less frequently, you need your student ID #, which is way longer and impossible to memorize).
I will remember mine until the day I die.

Has the school sent out the information regarding this loan? Or are you just going along yourself through the studentloans.gov site?
I'm not sure exactly what's different about this loan.

Im just doing it. Its different then a stafford loan in that it requires a credit check, and maybe the interest rates are different. All I know is that I need it to live off of.

only stafford- i dont think they got to grad plus yet. double check your studentloans.gov page to make sure that you have completed the plus promissary note- and did the mandatory session. if you did- i think you are good to go.

Anyone thinking about doing the Mellon Program? Has anyone done this program already and can talk about the experience?

Got an email about checking how much or if I was awarded a stafford loan, but the direction for checking it in the email are weird. I cannot find the student services tab. I may just be retarded though.

Go to the my.pitt page, on the right click Student Center Login. From there click Self Service on the Pop-up page and then 'View Financial Aid' under the campus finances tab.

There is also a makeup session in the schedule? What does that mean?
