I'm sure it's ok to apply later, but it is most certainly better to apply earlier.

While I'm sure they could have done something else with the $.44, the holiday card was a nice surprise.

Did anybody else get an email about the public interest scholarship?

I was going to apply, but there's a ton of crazy requirements and stipulations with it... :?

You're most definitely not late.

I have friends who applied in January/February and got in with $.
I heard my name? I applied in early February, was accepted early/mid April, and I got $8k/yr with numbers that were SPOT on median for both. In other words, those of you who are worrying yourselves to death, STOP IT. There will be plenty of time to freak out around Thanksgiving next year for all of you.
Are you a URM?

My LSAT score is exactly at their median (159) but my GPA is well above Pitt's 75%. I've been under review since 12/8 which I realize means that I shouldn't get a decision until January but I am still worried!

Haha, Bedsole is about as far from a URM as one can get :).

You guys are fine, but time is definitely starting to tick. Obviously the better your numbers are the less concerned you need to be (Had a friend who applied mid March and got in within 2 weeks, both LSAT and GPA above median though). No need to panic, just focus and get everything done, Pitt took plenty of people with median numbers who applied in February last year.

Don't get an attititude with me because you didnt answer the question :? . There are tons of ways you could have found out. Emails and phone calls are VERY popular. hth <3

I'm sorry. The $12000 "tuition scholarship" is in the letter. I found out about the full scholarship from a dean at my school.
I'm confused by this. Your letter said youre getting 12k per year but your UG school said you were getting more? Can you elaborate?

Oh, and 14k/year "dean's scholarship" in my letter. Just opened it.
+1. Have you actually been awarded this or are you just assuming that you will be awarded this? From your posts it just sounds like you're assuming you will get this because others have gotten it in the past and someone from your school said you should probably get it.

If I go to Pitt, I will get this. I don't know why it's so difficult for people to believe/understand. :?

I think people are having a hard time understanding that you, like most, only received a 12-14,000 dollar scholarship from the university but have been awarded another scholarship from an outside party.

I could be wrong though as well.

Pitt guarantees a deans scholarship to people with a 3.4 and a 163. So if he has those numbers, its fair for him to say that he will get a scholarship.

Its a 3.4 and a 161, not 163.

I understand he got the 12-14k dean's scholarship. I got this as well. He said hes going to have full tuition & expenses & etc paid for. The 12-14k a year will NOT be that. I'm wondering what scholarship he was told he will get? It must be by some third party, but he didn't really say that. It sounds strange to me which is why I asked him to elaborate.

The scholarship is from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

It provides full tuition, fees, and books. It is only for certain graduates of certain schools in PA.

If you want to call it a "third-party" scholarship, be my guest.

All I know is if I go to Pitt, I'll have very, very little debt.

I got that as well. I read through it and decided it is not for me, especially this early.

Has anybody had any luck negotiating scholarship money from Pitt? I'm an Ohio resident, pushing the tuition to around 34k per year and would really like getting that 12k/year scholarship to make it a more financially viable option.

This is a top school on my list. I applied in October with a 3.4/160 but had the admissions office hold my app until my new December score is released.

Does anyone know if Pitt offers in-state tuition to out of staters and what they are like in terms of meeting scholarships from other schools? It seems like they only give out 12/14K p/y.

Many out of state students are able to receive in-state tuition after their first year, in extraordinary cases you can receive it during your first year. You just have to show a commitment to staying in the state after graduation, the things examined by the appeals office include, but are not limited to:

(A) Lease or purchase of a permanent, independent residence within this Commonwealth by the student.
(B) Payment of appropriate State and local taxes. Special attention should be given to payment of Pennsylvania taxes on income earned during periods of temporary absence from this Commonwealth.
(C) Transfer of bank accounts, stocks, automobiles and other registered property to Pennsylvania from another state.
(D) Procurement of a Pennsylvania driver’s license.
(E) Procurement of a Pennsylvania motor vehicle registration.
(F) Agreement for permanent, full-time employment in this Commonwealth.
(G) Membership in social, civic, political, athletic and religious organizations located in this Commonwealth.
(H) Registration to vote in this Commonwealth.
(I) A sworn statement by the student or his parents or guardian in the case of a minor declaring his intention to make this Commonwealth his residence either permanently or for an indefinite period of time.
(J) A sworn statement from the parents or guardian of a minor setting forth facts to establish the minor’s financial independence and separate residence.

They always deny on the first attempt, but you're able to appeal and discuss your request with the appeals committee, which is a bunch of super nice administrators from all over the university.

If you have more questions, feel free to PM me.

So far I'm also in at Miami and Hofstra (withdrawing from Hofstra). I'm trying to stay in the state of Florida.
