Finally looked into the student budget today.. guess a 1BR at Regents isn't happening after all
I wouldn't sweat it. There's tons of cheap apartments around Hyde Park. Regents is only good if you want to pay a bunch of extra money to live in a high rise on the lake. The views of the lake if you have a lakefront apartment in Regents are
pretty nice I'll admit. A couple friends of mine used to have a place on like the 20th floor or something, and the apartments aren't huge, but it is what it is - a doorman, lakefront high rise.
You can find stuff much closer - admittedly it won't be as slick, but you'll pay like half the price, and get more space, be able to like... throw parties and stuff if you want. There is a ton, a TON of housing for students around, as Hyde Park is basically a college "town" nestled in one of the shittier parts of Chicago.
