I had somebody I trusted pretty well that I had done extensive work with do a LOR for me for a White House Internship and she form lettered it. Sort of made me sick when I saw it. Fortunately, I did see the other two letters and they were beyond phenomenal. If you got into the schools that were your target, or better yet, your reach schools then go give you recommenders a hug and buy them chocolates... they so very well could have been the difference.

Actually, this is true. I got a huge scholarship to a school I applied to (full tuition plus stipend at a top-20ish school) and the letter for the scholly mentioned my strong letters of recommendation specifically, and pretty much nothing else of specifics about my application. I immediately sent them all handmade cards detailing all the reasons I am thankful and I'm eternally grateful.

They don't say that you have to accept that option, but only that it is looked upon more favorably if you do. Thus, assuming like most applicants that choice was selected you quite honestly aren't supposed to see it.

That waiver only ask you to waive to right to obtain it from the school and/or LSAC. It does not imply you can't or agree to not see the content. If you don't sign it, you have the right to ask the school to show you the LOR because it is a part of your student record.

Edited for clarity.

Yes I have a recommender that I will owe that to very shortly... I wish I would have had her do the recommendations for my earlier applications. One piece of advice would be to find a recommender with solid qualifications who is nice and grandmotherlike... that will so, so make your life.

I believe this is incorrect. By checking that box, you are waiving your right according to some law to view your LOR once you are a student at the school. Checking that box does not mean you agree to refuse to see the letter if your recommender offers to show it to you.

Well... that is nice... when in doubt don't do what requires you to have to argue your application before a judge... just a thought.

Or you know, when in doubt read it a second time. Or research it. Or ask someone.

You should never do anything if you are in doubt as an attorney. Always be clear on what you need or not need to do. Just a tip. Your client will thank you.

How the hell did you get a 179 on the LSAT? Please enlighten me as to how anyone does this.

I was waitlisted today. The letter said

"You are among a select group of students we would like to continue considering for admission."

Is this legit or should I just yank my name off the waitlist?

I reread the letter, maybe I will write an essay and ride it out until April. Better get my $'s worth.

It's like that one cheerleader in highschool that winked at you once. You know you could never date her, but you won't stop trying until she actually says no.

Except in this scenario, the cheerleader doesn't go on to live in a trailer, perpetually barefoot and pregnant.

Dear Chicago,

I donate my spot to Habit. I don't think anyone deserves it more.

Waitlisted. My first non-accept, and it felt a little gut-punchy. That said, posts like this make it feel better.

I think I'll certainly write a Why Chi, because it will come so easily. I wish I had an updated transcript to send them, or that they would accept an additional LOR or resume. But I'll do what I can. I at least thought the waitlist email was done kindly and respectfully.
